If I'm value base drafting in any format auction, standard & PPR, half point whatever, once I enter the league rules if I follow value I always end up with RB in 3 out of the first 4 rounds where I'd be much happier getting 3 WR. I know you say to change the format to something like 2.1 RB and 2.9 WR but why should we have to change the rules of the league format? I appreciate you guys and this forum but I've seen a few questions like this and its not consistent with the articles. Should I really be drafting RBs over WR? At least in standard leagues?

Thanks guys.

I don't know that Scott and I are the BEST people to address this because both of us still value RBs a little more than most do right now, so I have no problem with the value being at the RB spot.

However, I think the rankings vs. draft strategy are a little bit of a different matter. Rankings will be based on projected points, but the basis behind zero-RB is the recent historical data that shows top WRs are more likely to perform to their expectations than top RBs are. Specifically, last year's crop of top backs ended up woefully under-performing, for a myriad of reasons. C.J. Anderson, Jeremy Hill, Eddie Lacy, Jamaal Charles, Marshawn Lynch, and Le'Veon Bell were all first round picks in most leagues last year, and all were disappointing. The only back that didn't disappoint to some extent in the first round last year was Adrian Peterson.

On the flip side, Dez Bryant and Demaryious Thomas were the only disappointing top WRs, unless you drafted before Jordy's injury. And Thomas still had a pretty good year... just couldn't find the end zone consistently.

So that's the basis behind zero-RB. Passing league + safety at the top of the WR position = more reliable early round picks.

But that doesn't mean that when all is said and done Allen Robinson is going to be more valuable at the end of the year than Adrian Peterson was, or even Jamaal Charles. Just that he's a safer bet to maximize your early round pick. That's how I understand it anyway.

Helpful?

I asked the forum about a month ago because i was finding what seemed like inconsistencies in rankings vs 4for4 suggested strategy.....i got same response ( my league is 2 rb 2 wr 1 te 1 flex 1 qb) so once i changed settings from 2.5 rb to 2 rb and 2.5 wr to 3 wr.....now rankings n draft simulation appear correct

It is helpful and I'd be happy going rb particularly in standard. It's nice to know tat you guys aren't being swayed by one year of data, I did notice in expert leagues that the 0rb is only employed by half of the members consistently.

Sometimes I use the Analyzer. I want to go 0RB this year but drafting in the 9th spot of a 12-man keeps resulting in RB value where the WRs are always a reach.
