I think maybe my question slipped through the cracks, or I'm unreasonably impatient, but I'll repost just in case:
In my experience with auction drafts (my favorite type), I almost always prefer to save $ at the qb position. The problem is, there's always like 4 or 5 league mates that for whatever reason are willing to spend about $5 ($200 budget 12 teams) on their backup. Well according to auction values, qbs past #13 are valued at $1. So I always end up biting the bullet and paying like $6 for a qb that is valued at $1 just dip I don't end up with like qb #18 as my guy (even if I plan on streaming).

Is this a case of the league dictating the market value, or is it me simply lacking the cojones to stick with the plan of going with a couple $1 guys, whoever they end up being?

Sorry if we missed you, sometimes we overlook a question accidentally.

I would look a little harder at who you're missing by overpaying for a QB. If you're just missing out on a better backup TE or something, then that's not really an issue, but if you think of it in terms of how much you're able to pay your RB3 or something, then that's a much bigger factor. In that case, which probably is the case, then I think I'd probably be just fine with the 18th ranked QB. Deep position means that might end up being someone like Teddy B. or Joe Flacco. That's not bad in my eyes.

Unfortunately it is your league mates who are inflating the values. The auction values you are referring to that have been posted on many sites are from data gathered from numerous leagues around the country. Basically a an average of what was bid for the lower tiered players.
You are going to have to spend the money earlier in the draft or try QB streaming if the
at option will work with your waiver wire arrangements.
