I am in a standard 12 team league. I have been in FFL for a couple of decades now but only in the last couple of years have I been using mock draft software (or web). This is my first year with 4for4! I won one of my leagues last year and came in dead last in another. I thought I drafted well in both. I used Rotowire last year, which was okay.

Finally my questions: How many mock drafts do you run? I like to put myself in the 6-8 spots, but if I want a challenge myself for picks is this the ideal spot? My overall drafting strategy doesn't change no matter where I am placed - I am mostly trying to see typically who is available. I've probably run 10-15 mocks so far.

Also...and maybe it's just me who finds this strange - but when using the PCDrafter 2014 software and placing myself in the 6-8 inevitably the #1 Gold Ranked player for me to pick is Alfred Morris - why is he valued so high? I'm nervous going with him with my #1 overall pick!

Thanks for the Words of Wisdom!

Greg,

Welcome to the site! I don't think I do a ton of mock drafts, but I guess I first need to know the definition of a ton... I guess between experiments on PC Drafter and MFL mocks and stuff at the site they can add up. I guess I never kept count. I love using PC Drafter. I don't always agree with all the picks but I love the organization on draft day to be able to keep track of the draft and everyone's roster and see how positions are ranked and if I can wait and go another direction, etc..

I will say that your settings need to be really in-depth to get the most out of it and that can take some time. Something must not be right with the setup if it's saying to take Morris in that range. I haven't come across that and I've picked in that range a few times in the program. I'm not sure what could be the issue to be honest. Maybe do an update, but definitely make sure your settings are pretty specific. Also, you want to limit computer teams to taking no more than 2 QBs because sometimes they go a little nuts. It's not a perfect program, I will admit, but it can be useful. Let me know if you're able to resolve it...

Something to keep a look out for since you are new is our "Perfect Draft" series of articles. Some of the scouts at the site use PC Drafter and pick from various spots in various league setups and then talk in-depth about each pick. It's something we all get pretty into and we're able to share draft strategies with subscribers as well. They will be starting very soon.
