What are the differences in draft strategy between say an minuscule 8-team league vs a 10 team league? I mean, theoretically, VBD should apply no matter the size of the league, right? It's just that in my mind, the 3 teams that reach for the top QBs are doing so at a discount now, right? In an 8 team league, nearly 40% of the league will have a top tier QB, does that. Same goes for the top TEs, no? Or am I missing something obvious?
That's exactly correct. I don't think it gets too important until you get to 14 and 16 team leagues though. That's when I've seen people focus on QB and TE early to give an extra competitive advantage at those positions.
