Ended up with an extra pick because of an offseason trade and need to cut one player before the season.

Bear with me and my league keeper rules.

Normally you can keep 2 players for 3 years max unless you take a first or second year player after round 8, that opens a third "franchise" keeper option. Franchise players are kept 5 years.

I have Cam Newton as an 11th rd keeper (Goes to 4th rd next year, then I'd have to drop him the following year)

Options to cut:

Tyrod Taylor ( keeper would be 13th rd, 4th rd, dropped)
Marcus Mariota (keeper would be 14th, 13th, 12th, 11th, 10th)

Normally I value the current year and trying to win way more than thinking about the future. With already having Cam who will likely start every game for me, is Mariota close enough to Tyrod to keep because of the keeper benefit or do I keep Tyrod as a high upside player and forget about the keeper stuff?

Yeah, I think Mariota is quality enough for the keeper benefit. I might feel differently if you didn't have Cam this year at such a value, but having Cam in place warrants you to bank on upside and think a little more long term for your backup option. That's not a knock on Taylor at all, but you're not starting him unless something happens to Cam this year, and Mariota should be a quality player as well.
