Beanie Wells headed towards game-time decision
Thursday, September 9, 2010, 5:48pm
Running back Beanie Chris Wells
sat out practice again Thursday. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said he’s comfortable with a Tim Hightower
-LaRod Stephens-Howling
- Jason Wright
combo in St. Louis, and more importantly, he doesn’t want to rush Wells and his bruised knee. “We will see,” Whisenhunt said, adding, “it wouldn’t be a stretch to bring Beanie to the game knowing you can use him and if you don’t, you still have three other guys.”
“What concerns me, I don’t want this to be something in Week 12, Week 13 or Week 14 that you are having issues with,” Whisenhunt said. “If we feel Beanie has made enough progress by Sunday, he will play. If we don’t, like I said, I feel strongly about who we have at the position.”
It's looking like it will go down to the wire, with Wells likely a game-time decision in a nice matchup with STL. If Wells can't go, Tim Hightower
becomes a near must start RB.
Mendenhall to retain goal line carries after all
Thursday, September 9, 2010, 3:53pm
Steelers OC Bruce Arians says RB Rashard Mendenhall
will be the Steelers goal line back after all.
Earlier in the week Isaac Redman
was anointed the "short-yardage back." It looks like that doesn't mean he will be getting the goal line carries. Look for Mendenhall to retain those duties and be a force as a 3 down back. We like Mendenhall as long as he can stay healthy. Expect a healthy dose of the run while Ben his serving is suspension.

Miami was again without one of their starting linebackers in practice Thursday and their starting left tackle is still gimpy.
ILB Channing Crowder missed his second straight day of practice with a lower abdominal injury that’s kept him out of action since mid-August.
Meanwhile starting LT Jake Long was limited in practice again on Thursday with a knee injury.
WR Brandon Marshall
was added to the injury report on Thursday with an ankle injury, but participated fully in practice.

Laurence Maroney
, Julian Edelman
, and Randy Moss
all returned to Patriots practice Thursday.
Moreno still appeared tentative during practice
Thursday, September 9, 2010, 1:27pm
Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno
still appeared tentative during the part of practice that was open to the media Wednesday, and he lagged behind the other backs in a group jog.
"I just want to get back out there," Moreno said before practice. "Basically, that's what it all really comes down to."
Coach Josh McDaniels said before practice that he was hopeful Moreno would progress — and not suffer any setbacks — each day this week. That will determine how much of the workload Moreno can handle against the Jaguars.

49ers QB Alex Smith
was declared a team captain. HC Mike Singletary said it was impossible to ignore Smith's commitment during the offseason.
"You know he's out here when no one was out here," Singletary said. "He was the guy that got the receivers together and threw to them, and changed his schedule around to meet with some other receivers. So, he was not just doing it once a day, he was doing it twice a day, as well as in the classroom. He was wearing (offensive coordinator) Jimmy Raye and (quarterbacks coach) Mike Johnson out all offseason."

Even though he was involved in a car accident this morning, Patriots QB Tom Brady
will practice this afternoon.
