Victor Cruz running on grass

Progress. There finally seems to have been some substantial progress for Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz and his troublesome calf.

For the first time in over a month, Cruz has done some running outside of the pool and on grass. He seems to be inching closer to a return, possibly even by Week 4 in Buffalo. It would be his first game since tearing the patellar tendon in his right knee last October against the Philadelphia Eagles and injuring his calf this summer during training camp. Cruz and the Giants were confident the knee would be ready for Week 1.

"Nothing has been said differently about his status, except the fact that they continue to extend his work," coach Tom Coughlin said on Monday. "They're pleased with that part of it."

Fantasy Impact:

Cruz had been running in a pool and working on the AlterG anti-gravity treadmill over the past few weeks in an effort to get back on the field. But because there was blood in the calf at one point, he was being brought along slowly. Cruz would be a welcome addition to the Giants offense and should boost the fantasy value of Eli Manning and perhaps give more space to Odell Beckham Jr.
