Colts Beat: Expect QB Andrew Luck to look for WR Donte Moncrief more

Tuesday, November 15, 2016, 9:01am

ESPN - [Full Article]

The Colts have plenty of speed at receiver in T.Y. Hilton and Phillip Dorsett, but the two of them lack the size Donte Moncrief (6-foot-2) has.

Moncrief is the possession receiver the Colts lacked while he was out because he can go get the ball in coverage in the middle of the field or in the end zone. He's tied for seventh on the Colts in receptions with 14 and he's fifth in receiving yards. He has three touchdown receptions while only playing four games this season. You can expect Luck to look for Moncrief even more now that he's healthy.

Fantasy Impact:

Moncrief said he and Luck spend ample time working on back-shoulder catches during the individual portion of practice. The play where Moncrief caught his touchdown against the Packers was supposed to be a run, but Luck called an audible when he noticed the way the safety was "tilted," which left the throw open to the backside for Moncrief. This could potentially be a good sign of things to come for Moncrief owners.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (hamstring) used in limited role

Monday, November 7, 2016, 10:36am

ESPN - [Full Article]

A week after sitting out because a hamstring injury, Randall Cobb caught two passes for 14 yards -- including the 3-yard touchdown that pulled the Packers within five points of the Colts with 3:29 to play after trailing by 18 -- in an extremely limited role. Afterward, there appeared to be some confusion about what should have been expected from Cobb in his return.

“Didn’t quite understand what Cobb’s status was,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said.

Even Cobb was unsure why he didn’t play a single snap in the first half.

“I was waiting for my number to be called,” he said. “Obviously, there was some apprehension with my injury, and we didn’t know for sure if I was going to be able to get out there. But once I was cleared, I didn’t quite know exactly what to expect, so I just had to be prepared for my number.”

Fantasy Impact:

HC Mike McCarthy said he was surprised Cobb was able to suit up but he took a conservative approach with him. As a result, it wasn't a great fantasy day for owners but the TD was a nice bonus. Now the hope is Cobb will be closer to full strength, and a more involved role, for their next game.

Colts QB Andrew Luck (right shoulder) took full practice reps on Friday after being limited earlier in the week. Luck is good to go to face the Packers.

Chiefs QB Alex Smith (head, ear, out) took limited practice reps all week and is out for Week 9. Smith apparently won’t play in Week 9. Nick Foles will get the start against the Jaguars, who are decent against the pass. Foles isn’t a bad streaming option after doing pretty well against the Colts (223 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts).

Colts RB Frank Gore (not injury related) took full practice reps again Friday. Gore will be fine for a bad matchup with the Packers.

Friday, November 4, 2016, 6:47pm

Packers RB James Starks (knee, out) took limited practice reps again Friday and is out for Week 9. Look for Ty Montgomery and Don Jackson to see most of the touches out of the Green Bay backfield. Montgomery is a great play against the Colts.

Friday, November 4, 2016, 6:47pm

Packers WR Randall Cobb (hamstring, questionable) took limited practice reps all week and is questionable for Week 9. Cobb is a game-time decision and did not sound confident that he was going to play this week. Unfortunately, the Packers play late again this week, so owners will have to account for that uncertainty on Sunday morning. If he’s active, he’s a strong play in what should be a high scoring game against the Colts.

Colts WR Phillip Dorsett (not injury related) returned to take full practice reps Friday after missing practice Thursday.
