Vick to play 4th quarter at QB Thursday
Tuesday, August 25, 2009, 11:37am
At his news conference Tuesday, Andy Reid is expected to officially announce that quarterback Michael Vick will make his Eagles debut Thursday night against Jacksonville.
That was the gist of what Reid said on his WIP Radio show Monday evening, or what hosts Howard Eskin and Merrill Reese inferred, and Reid did not contradict them.
There was never any real doubt that Vick would play in the first game he is eligible to take the field for since being reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell, but in remarks over the past week or so, Reid has hedged, perhaps not wanting the final tuneup for the Eagles' starters to be all about Vick.
From what Reid said on the radio show, expect Donovan McNabb to play the first half, followed by Kevin Kolb in the third quarter and Vick in the fourth.
Reid did not answer a question about how Vick will be used, but in the past, he has affirmed that Vick is a quarterback.

Kevin Kolb has not been forgotten.
He's still considered the Eagles second-string quarterback, even though Michael Vick is now here.
Vick was signed while Kolb was sidelined with a medial collateral sprain in his left knee. The injury forced the third-year pro from Houston to miss the first two preseason games and coach Andy Reid has not decided if Kolb will play Thursday night against the Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field.
NFL sanctioned Vick jerseys available for dogs
Monday, August 24, 2009, 1:14am
The new Michael Vick Eagles Jersey is being made and put on sale, now that Vick is an Eagle. The jersey is one of the current top sellers on NFLShop.com.
A Michael Vick dog jersey is also on the way, as the NFL is creating a custom made dog jersey with Michael Vick's name, number and new colors. Humans are probably uneasy enough buying Michael Vick human jerseys, especially in Philadelphia, but a Michael Vick dog jersey is something else altogether.

Beason injury not serious, wont need surgery
Sunday, August 23, 2009, 4:43pm
Jon Beason’s knee injury is not serious and he won’t need surgery, according to two sources close to the All-Pro middle linebacker. Beason is hoping to be ready for the regular season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, although that remains up in the air.
One source said Beason’s injury ”isn’t serious” and another added that “he won’t need surgery” and that he’s ”shooting for the season opener.”
Vick continues prep with Eagles assistants
Sunday, August 23, 2009, 2:46pm
Eagles OC Marty Mornhinweg says Michael Vick picks up a little more each time he practices with assistant coaches James Urban and Doug Pederson.
Vick worked out with Urban, the quarterbacks coach, and Pederson, the offensive quality control coach, on Sunday.
Mornhinweg expects coach Andy Reid will probably make a decision Tuesday on whether Vick will make his preseason debut Thursday at home against the Jaguars. Mornhinweg says much of Vick's challenge is getting into football shape after not playing for two years.
Saints RB Mike Bell 100 yards on 10 carries
Sunday, August 23, 2009, 12:04pm
Mike Bell still can run: The Saints are known for their aerial attack -- and certainly showed it off Saturday night -- but they surprised the Texans with 27 run plays for 173 yards. With Reggie Bush nursing a strained calf, Bell made the most of some additional carries, leading New Orleans with 100 rushing yards and scoring on a 46-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Reid planning to play Vick on Thursday
Sunday, August 23, 2009, 10:14am
If all goes according to coach Andy Reid's plan during practice this week, Michael Vick will make his first appearance as the Eagles' QB when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars in a preseason game at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night.
Though Reid gave no solid commitment Saturday, he did say, "There's a chance. I want to see again how [Vick] does this week. Right now, that's the plan."
Vick signed with the Eagles on Aug. 13, but was not allowed to play in last Thursday's preseason game against Indianapolis under the provisions of his suspension from the league.
Instead, Vick has been working overtime with quarterbacks coach James Urban and OC Marty Mornhinweg. Reid has been impressed by Vick's steady improvement.
"He looks like, I'm talking the football side, it looks like he's in pretty good shape," Reid said. "You could tell he's done some running and some lifting.
"It looked like he started off a little rusty throwing the football, and as the week went on it looked like it smoothed out for him a little bit."
Vick's first appearance in an Eagles uniform is sure to stir a variety of emotions.
Plan is for Vick to make debut Thursday
Saturday, August 22, 2009, 3:35pm
Michael Vick will make his Eagles debut Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars if all goes well over the next three days of practice, coach Andy Reid said Saturday.
"I think there is a chance of that," Reid said. "Right now that's the plan. But we'll see how it goes."
Vick signed with Philadelphia on Aug. 13 but was not allowed to play in the team's first two preseason games under the provisions of his suspension from the league.
Vick has worked the majority of his time at quarterback. If he does play Thursday, he would share time with starter Donovan McNabb and backup Kevin Kolb, who is coming back from a knee injury.
"I want to see how he does this week," Reid said. "He worked throughout the week here as we went to the game (in Indianapolis). He did a couple of workouts here and was here yesterday on the players' day off and worked hard. He's getting through that soreness and we'll just see how it goes for this week as he goes through practice."
"It looks like -- I'm talking the football side -- it looks like he's in pretty good shape. You could tell he's done some running and some lifting. It looked like he started out a little rusty throwing the ball and as the week went on that smoothed out for him a little bit."
Friday, August 21, 2009, 9:06am
Eagles coach Andy Reid left open the possibility last night that Michael Vick would play in the team's third exhibition game next week, but he would not guarantee it.
Peyton Manning lobbies for playing time
Thursday, August 20, 2009, 3:15pm
Manning believes he and the offense require a heavy dose of playing time tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"We kind of played a lot less than what we thought we were going to play," Manning said. "They told us 12 plays and we got six."
Coach Jim Caldwell said the workload for many of the team's front-line players would increase tonight to approximately 20 plays, or at least one quarter.
