Ryan Mathews not yet cleared for contact

Chargers RB Ryan Mathews was active in individual workouts for the second consecutive day, but has not been cleared for contact meaning his odds of playing Monday are not good.

"I don't have a schedule," Chargers coach Norv Turner said. "I will say that I love his attitude regarding the injury. He's doing everything possible to get back. He'd have to get the reps necessary to prepare for a game, and he's not at that point yet."

The Chargers would like to ease him back into practice and increase the contact he faces over time. The prospect of re-injury is a concern.

"We're evaluating him and we'll see how it goes," Turner said. "We'd like to increase his activity each day. Hopefully things continue to go well and we can do that."

Fantasy Impact:

Given the nature of the injury, we believe Mathews will miss at least Week 1 if not Week 2 as well. The chances of re-injury decrease as Mathews is allowed to heal. Ronnie Brown should carry the load while Mathews is sidelined.
