With or without James Jones, the Packers do envision Randall Cobb playing more outside.
“I do," wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett said this week. "I think just going back and talking about a tough-minded individual, mentally as well as physically, I think he can go outside. That’s something that we certainly talked about and worked on some during training camp. But obviously, he’s a difference-maker in slot. Wherever you put him, he can be a difference. He can continue to be an impact player.”
Cobb did talk about this heading into training camp. He wanted to be more than a slot receiver, even if that's where he excels most.
Cobb's role will somewhat depend on whether or not the Packers re-sign James Jones, who has implied that he's not looking to break the bank with his next deal.
