Raiders release Russell

QB JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft, was released by the Raiders, leaving with only seven wins as a starter and over $39M.

Senior executive John Herrera told The Associated Press the move was made Thursday - two weeks after the Raiders traded for Washington's QB Jason Campbell - and that "we wish him well."

Russell, who led LSU to a 10-2 record including a win over Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, where he was the MVP.

His career with the Raiders didn't start well, either, as he held out of traIning camp, missed the first few weeks of the season before signing a $68 million contract with $31.5 guaranteed.

Fantasy Impact:

It doesn't take 4for4.com to tell you that even if Russell finds another home he's going to have little to no fantasy value.
