Portis returns quickly for longest gain of career

Running back Clinton Portis ran for a career-high 78 yards on his first carry after briefly leaving Washington's game against the Kansas City Chiefs with what the Redskins said was a sprained ankle.
Portis was out of the lineup to start the second half Sunday, and Washington said his return was questionable. Ladell Betts replaced Portis on the field to open the third quarter.
But on Washington's second possession of the quarter, Portis was back on the field. He broke into the open up the left sideline and set up a field goal that put Washington ahead 6-3.
Portis' previous long run in the NFL was a gain of 65 yards in 2003, when he played for the Denver Broncos. That run also came against the Chiefs.
