In five fast hours Tuesday, the rebuilding Texans cemented their long-debated quarterback situation and erased the man who led the franchise to its first playoff victory.
Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick became coach Bill O’Brien’s first NFL starting QB. T.J. Yates was released. Former University of Houston star Case Keenum was effectively promoted, already placing the reconfigured 2014 Texans in a similar situation to their 2013 fall.

Four quarterbacks have a chance to be the Texans’ Week 1 starter.
First-year coach Bill O’Brien said the team will eventually make a decision about its quarterback situation, which will affect repetitions during training camp. But as of Tuesday, the race for the starter spot remains “wide open.”
We expect Fitzpatrick to win this job, but it's something to monitor, especially for Andre Johnson or DeAndre Hopkins owners.

The Texans will draft one quarterback and "maybe two," HC Bill O'Brien told fans.
Although the Texans reportedly have been dangling the No. 1 overall pick in trade talks, the Houston Chronicle's John McClain has maintained they will draft a quarterback with their top selection.
O'Brien was speaking at a town hall meeting. The team recently signed Ryan Fitzpatrick and still has Case Keenum and T.J. Yates under contract. O'Brien worked miracles with Matt McGloin at Penn State in just a year, so the potential is there for him to turn any of the younger guys into a usable fantasy QB.

Ben Tate gets the start at RB. Dennis Johnson will back him up.
Despite looking iffy early in the day, Arian Foster is active and will give it a go today. Ben Tate is also active, but is dealing with fractured ribs. If forced to start one, we'd go with Foster, but the situation is extremely fluid.

Kubiak said Monday that he will prepare T.J. Yates and Case Keenum to start this week against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. Schaub's status will be determined at the end of the week, according to Kubiak.
No matter who starts, it's a pretty tough matchup against one of the league's better defenses in the Chiefs. Yates or Keenum likely bring down the value a bit of any Texan receiver.

T.J. Yates came in to cheering fans but played pretty poorly. Schaub starting status was in doubt coming into the game, but Yates did nothing to earn himself praise. We'll learn more about Schaub's status later this week. Yates would likely start if Schaub can't go, though.
