Rams RB Jackson could be a game-time call
Monday, September 19, 2011, 10:19am

Albert Breer on Twitter - [Full Article]

Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo rested Steven Jackson all week, told me: "We knew the only shot he had was to rest it all the way through. It’ll be a tough call."

Fantasy Impact:

It sounds like the Rams aren't ruling him out for tonight. A lot of times players who don't practice won't play, but Jackson is clearly a vet and knows the offense enough to step right into a game. Brian Westbrook owners can probably relate.

Hopefully owners have both backs, but if you're a Caddy Williams owner you may be stuck with a surprise Jackson start you weren't counting on. Caddy should still get his share of the workload even if Jackson starts.

Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano confirmed that he plans to continue giving running back Reggie Bush at least 20 carries each game.

As evidenced by Albert Haynesworth's one-armed tackle Monday night, Bush simply doesn't have the power to succeed between the tackles or at the goal-line. And the team appears to have given up on rookie Daniel Thomas already. They re-signed ancient Larry Johnson and worked out ancient Brian Westbrook, although they have not signed Westbrook to a contract.

The biggest evidence of Miami's inept passing game was a fourth and goal at the half-yard line after Chad Henne and Davone Bess had gotten the team within inches of scoring. Instead of seeing Reggie Bush, Daniel Thomas, or Larry Johnson trying to power over the goal-line, Henne threw an incomplete pass and the ball reverted to New England on downs.

As long as Bush remains the feature back, look for Miami to become a passing team with Chad Henne, who did not look bad on Monday night and has some weapons at his disposal. Bush is most effective in the passing game. Still, can anyone argue this team is better WITHOUT Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams?

Eagles sign RB Ronnie Brown
Tuesday, August 2, 2011, 5:08pm

csnphilly.com - [Full Article]

The Eagles on Monday found the veteran tailback they’ve been looking for, agreeing to a one-year contract with former Miami Dolphin Ronnie Brown.

Brown, a 1,000-yard rusher in 2006, had 4,815 rushing yards, 36 rushing touchdowns and a 4.3 average in six seasons with the Dolphins, who made him the second pick in the 2005 draft out of Auburn.

Brown is also an outstanding receiver, with 184 receptions for 1,491 yards. He’s had 30 or more catches in five of his six seasons.

Fantasy Impact:

Brown is yet another big name in the nest for the Eagles. Andy Reid generally hasn't given much work to the backup RB over the years, the bulk of the workload instead going to guys like Brian Westbrook and most recently LeSean McCoy. So, it remains to be seen how much Brown is used this year, but he'll be a great RB2 to turn to for either limited work or if McCoy should get hurt. Fantasy-wise, he many not have a lot of week-to-week value.

Fantasy Impact:

The Packers have struggled in the past against 49ers TE Vernon Davis, who ranks fifth among all tight ends in receiving yards with 548 after finishing fifth last year with 965. Last November at Lambeau Field, Davis caught six passes for 108 yards and one touchdown. He beat A.J. Hawk on a 32-yard catch, Jarrett Bush on a 29-yard catch and both Clay Matthews and Atari Bigby on a 24-yard catch. With the 49ers minus Frank Gore and Brian Westbrook hurting, Davis figures to be the first option for QB Troy Smith. Green Bay figures to keep the pressure on Smith and 49ers rookie RT Anthony Davis should have his hands full with Matthews, who has 11.5 sacks, an interception and has scored after a fumble recovery.

San Francisco Chronicle - [Full Article]

Niners coach Mike Singletary said the team didn't get enough rest between a Monday night game against New Orleans and a trip to Kansas City in September, contributing to two losses in six days.

This time, he's taking it easy on the team with lighter practices and more rest on another week made short by a Monday night game.

That's one reason running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) missed a second straight practice, even though he is expected to start.

49ers to follow Eagles old plan with Westbrook?
Thursday, December 2, 2010, 6:25pm

Matt Barrows on Twitter - [Full Article]

Brian Westbrook not practicing again today. But don't panic -- that was his routine in Philly. He'll practice Friday and play Sunday.

Fantasy Impact:

Westbrook was always banged up with the Eagles and this was a standard procedure week-to-week. He'd always play Sunday and usually show no effects. This looks like it could be part of the same formula the 49ers are using. Westy is well rested after not seeing a lot of action this season backing up Frank Gore, but is 31 and not the biggest back in the league. He took a lot of punishment while with the Eagles with his heavy workload.

Running Back By Committee In San Francisco
Tuesday, November 30, 2010, 6:48pm

CSN Bay Area - [Full Article]

The 49ers will be without their top running back for the remainder of the regular season. And coach Mike Singletary said he does not want veteran Brian Westbrook to get overworked as the 49ers look for ways to compensate for Gore's absence.

"We just have to be careful about how we use him (Westbrook) and how much exposure we allow him to see," Singletary said. "And I think it'll be a good mixture between Brian Westbrook and (Anthony) Dixon."

ALERT: Frank Gore's Season Is Over
Tuesday, November 30, 2010, 9:05am

Jason La Canfora - Twitter - [Full Article]

49ers RB Frank Gore's season is over after the running back suffered a hip injury in Monday's 27-6 win over the Cardinals.

Fantasy Impact:

Devastating blow to many fantasy GMs this late in the season. Brian Westbrook looks to be the #2 running back and is the #1 waiver add this week. Westbrook had 23 carries for 136 yards and a touchdown in San Francisco's 27-6 win over the Cardinals. Anthony Dixon may see most of the goal line work and is also worth a waiver add given Westbrook's injury history.
