Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joe Webb is embracing his role as a full-time quarterback after serving as a hybrid quarterback/receiver/wildcat option for two seasons.

Coach Leslie Frazier said in February he wanted Webb to concentrate on one position. The team wants to maximize his value at quarterback and lessen his responsibilities. He'll enter camp as Christian Ponder's backup.

"It's a great role to have," said Webb on Wednesday, May 2, in between sets during an offseason conditioning workout. "Any time you can concentrate on one position, that's always a positive."

Vikings Christian Ponder is in no jeopardy of losing his job as the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback, but after throwing five interceptions in the past two games coach Leslie Frazier acknowledged Monday the rookie needs to stop repeating his errors.

"I know the coaches are going to take a look at it with him today," Frazier said, a day after he lifted Ponder in favor of Joe Webb in the third quarter of a 34-28 loss in Detroit. "What you don't want to do is make the same mistakes repeatedly because that begins to get a little worrisome.

"He is doing some good things to offset some of the errors. We have to continue to accentuate the positives that he is doing and try to eliminate some of the negatives. But I do think he is growing. I think (Sunday) was a part of the maturation process for him, and we will be better for it and he will be better for it in time."

Vikings Christian Ponder, the 12th overall draft pick, will start Thursday's game and be followed by Joe Webb as the two of them take their battle for the No. 2 position down to the final week of the preseason. Starter Donovan McNabb's preseason is done. He didn't practice today and won't play on Thursday. The Vikings also released Rhett Bomar earlier today, so it's Ponder and Webb who will split the game. Each is expected to play a half.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Saturday the team still is undecided which direction it will go to determine a starting quarterback for next season, whether it be a veteran, a draft choice or ready-and-waiting Joe Webb.

Frazier said he's not leaning any particular way.

"It's kind of a matter of who's available," Frazier said. "And we need to find a guy who we can build around. That would be the ideal situation. But if Joe Webb can be that guy, it'll be Joe Webb. We like Joe; we like some of the things he did at the end of last season. We're going to give him a chance to compete for that starting job as well. It's open. We hope to have a young guy, and maybe a veteran guy. But it's going to be open competition."

Fantasy Impact:

The chances the Vikings actually enter the season with Joe Webb as their starter are slim. Any fantasy value he had will also be negated because he will likely not be WR eligible in 2011.

Although everyone expects QB Joe Webb to start, the Vikings continue to not rule out Brett Favre in what could potentially be his final NFL game. The Vikings are also saying that Favre did pass a preliminary concussion test. Whoever quarterbacks the Vikings will be minus WR Sidney Rice (concussion) and possibly Bernard Berrian, who pulled a quad muscle on Saturday. Berrian will be a game-time decision. Detroit must deal with RB Adrian Peterson, who ran for 160 yards and two TDs in Week 3. Peterson has averaged 131 yards in seven career games against Detroit, which has won three straight games. Defensively, Detroit has prepared for Favre, just in case. Lions MLB DeAndre Levy, who scored a touchdown last week, has made 59 tackles in his last nine games. Lions DT Ndamukong Suh should have an easier time going against Vikings RG Ryan Cook. Suh is looking to get two sacks in order to break Dana Stubblefield’s rookie record of 10.5.

"Almost no chance" Favre plays

Told that Brett Favre took the first part of the concussion test again but not certain if he was able to pass it. Almost no chance he plays.

Fantasy Impact:

Joe Webb will likely get the start in week 17 against the Lions. Webb is worth consideration in leagues where he can be played as a WR.

Vikings quarterback Brett Favre took the baseline neurological test late Wednesday afternoon but still has yet to pass, according to NFL sources.

Vikings interim coach Leslie Frazier said Wednesday that Favre had last taken the baseline exam about three or four days ago. Despite Joe Webb's performance in the Vikings' victory at Philadelphia on Tuesday, Favre will get the start on Sunday against Detroit in the regular-season finale if he can go.

Favre, who suffered a concussion a week ago Monday against Chicago, was given his latest test after Frazier's news conference.

Favre, 41, has said this will be the final game of his 20-year career, although the fact he has retired twice before and then returned has left some skeptical. Frazier said after Tuesday's game and again Wednesday that Favre will be under center on Sunday if he's able.

Vikings Peterson said he'll play Tuesday
Monday, December 27, 2010, 6:58pm

Judd Zulgad on Twitter - [Full Article]

Adrian Peterson (bruised thigh and knee) said he will play Tuesday night and that the extra two days off "helps a lot."

Fantasy Impact:

For those waiting on Peterson your gamble payed off. With Joe Webb the starting QB, expect AP to get a lot of work - perhaps the only shot the Vikings have is controlling the clock and keeping Mike Vick and the Birds offense off the field as much as possible. However, the Eagles have done a pretty good job this year shutting down opponents rushing games and have held some big-name backs in check this season.

Blizzard forces postponement of Vikes-Eagles game to Tuesday
Sunday, December 26, 2010, 5:46pm

NFL.com - [Full Article]

The Eagles' matchup against the Vikings in Philadelphia has been postponed until to 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday due to a blizzard, the Eagles announced Sunday.

The blizzard is expected to dump up to 20 inches of snow in Philadelphia, where the Vikings were scheduled to play the Eagles on Sunday night.

According to Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, a winter storm warning is in effect until 1 p.m. ET Monday. A state of emergency will go into effect Sunday in Philadelphia at 2 p.m. ET, about six hours before the original scheduled kickoff.

This isn't the first time the Vikings have been impacted by weather this season. The team's Week 14 game against the New York Giants had to be moved to Detroit after heavy snow forced the Metrodome roof to leak, then collapse. The Vikings then had to play their next game, a Monday night meeting with the Chicago Bears, at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium.

Fantasy Impact:

For those relying on Joe Webb, he becomes a considerably more risky start on Tuesday, with Brett Favre given 2 more days to get healthy. Adrian Peterson becomes less risky, but could still be a game-time decision. Percy Harvin & Sidney Rice would be better options if Favre starts, but even with Favre that's not a sure thing.

All Eagles become safer plays with the game postponed until the weather clears - DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy & Michael Vick.

Fantasy owners playing in the championship game this week will have their nerves shot, with many games hinging on outcomes we wont know until Tuesday night.
