Head coach Gary Kubiak and Texans GM Rick Smith confirmed that free agent FB Lawrence Vickers is in town for a visit today.

Fantasy Impact:

With the loss of Vonta Leach to Baltimore, fullback is a big need for the Texans and RB Arian Foster.

We have confirmed the Browns have tendered contracts to cornerback Eric Wright and tight end Evan Moore. They also re-signed linebacker D'Qwell Jackson for one year and quarterback Seneca Wallace for three years. They won't comment on the status of other RFAs, such as fullback Lawrence Vickers.

The Browns lost a 35-27 decision to Detroit on Saturday, but quarterback Jake Delhomme had another good performance. Delhomme was 20 of 25 for 152 yards and a TD for the Browns, whose quick-strike, no-huddle offense found a lot of holes in Detroit’s defense.

One player Delhomme utilized was Josh Cribbs, who had a leaping, 30-yard catch along the sideline that set up a TD toward the end of the first half.

Cleveland rookie quarterback Colt McCoy fumbled on his first drive midway through the fourth quarter to set up a lead-padding touchdown for the Lions. Overall McCoy was 10 of 14 for 76 yards.

Cleveland led 24-14 at halftime after Phil Dawson made his first of two field goals, Eric Wright returned Kevin Smith’s fumble 44 yards for a score, Delhomme tossed a short pass to Lawrence Vickers and Peyton Hillis had a 1-yard TD with 24 seconds left in the half.

The first preseason game of a new year always is notable because it's the first time NFL coaches are required to post a depth chart.

Here is what Browns coach Eric Mangini turned in as his team's first official depth chart:

Offense: WR Mohamed Massaquoi, LT Joe Thomas, LG Eric Steinbach, C Alex Mack, RG Floyd Womack, RT John St. Clair, TE Benjamin Watson, WR Brian Robiskie, QB Jake Delhomme, FB Lawrence Vickers, RB Jerome Harrison.

Defense: LE Robaire Smith, NT Ahytba Rubin, RE Kenyon Coleman, OLB Matt Roth, ILB D'Qwell Jackson, ILB Chris Gocong, OLB Scott Fujita, LCB Eric Wright, RCB Sheldon Brown, S Abram Elam, S T.J. Ward.

Fantasy Impact:

Interesting news that Josh Cribbs is listed behind Robiskie at one WR spot.

Cleveland Plain Dealer - [Full Article]

Running back Peyton Hillis has been taking advantage of his second-team reps with rookie Montario Hardesty sidelined with a twisted knee. During Sunday's practice, Hillis displayed excellent hands, catching several passes out of the backfield and turning them upfield for long runs. In a two-minute drill, he parlayed a short catch into a 26-yard blast that set up a field goal.

At 241 pounds -- he's still putting back on some weight from a flu that kept him out of some OTAs and minicamp -- he provides a big, bruising back and a jumbo backfield when paired with fullback Lawrence Vickers.

"With both of us in there, we can move the pile a little bit and get that tough yardage," he said.

Cleveland Plain Dealer - [Full Article]

Cleveland Plain Dealer beat writer Tony Grossi speculated that if rookie running back Montario Hardesty is healthy going into the season, that he would expect the running backs on the roster to be Hardesty, Jerome Harrison, and either James Davis or Chris Jennings. The fullbacks would be Lawrence Vickers and Peyton Hillis, acquired from Denver in the Brady Quinn trade.

Fantasy Impact:

Hardesty by all accounts is currently healthy and ready to go. He's made a nice impression in Cleveland so far and at this point projects to be the best fantasy player in Cleveland's backfield. While the Browns will likely be weak on offense and have to deal with Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati twice, they'll also draw the Bills, Buccaneers, Chiefs, and Jaguars. So there will be some weeks that a Browns running back could be potentially valuable as a spot starter. The winner of the Davis/Jennings battle could be useful should something happen to Hardesty or Harrison.

Browns WR Joshua Cribbs explained Thursday how he’s going to honor the teammates who helped him get to his second Pro Bowl. He brought nine of his core special teams blockers — Jerome Harrison, Lawrence Vickers, Blake Costanzo, Nick Sorensen and Ray Ventrone among them — in for Pro Bowl week, and he’s going to rotate wearing their jerseys the rest of the week, including Sunday’s game.
