Seahawks sign Matt Flynn to three-year deal worth as much as $26M
Sunday, March 18, 2012, 9:48pm
Matt Flynn has agreed to terms with the Seahawks on a contract worth up to $26M with $10M guaranteed.
With just two starts in his NFL career, the book on Flynn is thin, but it's a very good read. In 2010, with Aaron Rodgers sidelined due to a concussion, Flynn completed 24-for-37 passes for 251 yards, three TDs and an interception in a near-upset of the Patriots in Foxboro. Last season, with Rodgers resting in Week 17, Flynn had a record-setting day, throwing for 480 yards and six TDs (with just one pick) against the Lions in not-so-great conditions at Lambeau Field. He joins a Seattle offense that has a few good weapons in the passing game, including Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate and Zach Miller. Rice's health will be key. While Flynn doesn't have an overpowering arm, he's accurate and is very poised in the pocket. He'll likely be a middle round fantasy pick (going in the 10th-12th rounds) best suited for spot duty in a Quarterback By Committee (QBBC).

Seattle QB Tavaris Jackson struggles again
Sunday, August 21, 2011, 12:21pm
The Minnesota Vikings were reunited Saturday night with an old friend, new Seattle quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. They didn't treat him very kindly.
Jackson was running for safety most of the night and struggled as the Vikings beat the Seahawks 20-7. He completed 11 of 21 passes for 75 yards and one interception that deflected off receiver Golden Tate’s hands and was returned for a touchdown by cornerback Marcus Sherels.
New Minnesota quarterback Donovan McNabb led a long drive that ended in the first of Ryan Longwell’s two field goals for Minnesota.
McNabb led a 13-play drive that started at the 1 and ended in Longwell’s 36-yard field goal. Longwell added a 34-yarder.
McNabb was 6 of 8 for 81 yards. Tristan Davis added a 35-yard TD run with 2:09 left for Minnesota’s first offensive touchdown of the preseason.
As long as Jackson is under center, Sidney Rice, Mike X Williams, and Zach Miller are all likely to struggle.

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll again singled out second-year receiver Golden Tate as a player he’s expecting to have a breakout year in 2011.
Tate finished with only 21 catches in his rookie season. Tate made some jaw-dropping plays at practice during training camp and the early part of the regular season, but he struggled with running precise routes and making the proper reads in order to get regular playing time.
But Carroll believes Tate should see the field more in 2011, particularly in third-down situations as the slot receiver, similar to how Brandon Stokley was used last season.
“There’s nothing that we would like to see more than to elevate Golden’s effectiveness,” Carroll said. “We just didn’t get him over the hump last year, and we need to do that. He’ll be in position to take over a huge role for us.”

The Seahawks expect a major improvement from WR Golden Tate. Coach Pete Carroll made that clear after the season ended:
"He's got a huge upside. I think he's a fantastically natural football player. He's got competitiveness about him, he's got play-making in him and I wish it would have come more to the front this year. That's a big project for us. We need to bring him out."
