Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas ACTIVE tonight
Monday, October 17, 2011, 7:39pm
The Dolphins will get a couple of important pieces back in the lineup tonight versus the Jets as running back Daniel Thomas (hamstring) and cornerback Vontae Davis (hamstring) are both active and set to play tonight.
Thomas, who has 202 yards in two games with a 4.9-yard average, is active for the first time since Week 3. With Thomas back, newcomer Steve Slaton, signed before the Week 4 game at San Diego, is inactive tonight.
Thomas is a go and has a surprisingly good matchup against a struggling Jets rushing defense, but will likely at least give up some carries to Reggie Bush.

New Miami Dolphins running back Steve Slaton said he has picked up the team's system well and is prepared to fill in for Daniel Thomas, who has 202 rushing yards over the past two games.
Slaton has experience as a returner but said the Dolphins have only been working him at running back.
It's good news that Slaton feels comfortable with the playbook, but he's not likely to see much work tomorrow in San Diego and doesn't need to be added to fantasy rosters at this point.
Daniel Thomas (hamstring) misses practice on Friday

Daniel Thomas (hamstring) missed practice on Friday.
Hamstring injuries aren’t new for Thomas, who missed time during training camp and the opener against New England with the same problem. He’s ranked eighth in AFC rushing and first among rookies with 202 yards in two games. He’s also sixth among those with 20 or more carries with an average of 4.9 yards per carry.
If Thomas can’t go, newly acquired Steve Slaton could be pressed into service. Slaton proved himself an all-purpose back in 2008 when he rushed for 1,282 yards. While Slaton hasn’t had much activity this season, rushing just seven times for 20 yards, he was only waived by Houston on Tuesday, so he should be in shape.
If not Slaton, then the bulk of carries would either go to Reggie Bush, whose hasn’t gotten the job done running inside all year, or Lex Hilliard, who has all of 26 career carries and never more than five in a game. His numbers this season: three carries, 5 yards, most if not all in short-yardage situations.
We don't expect Steve Slaton to get too much work after joining the Dolphins this week, so if Thomas misses Sunday's game, Reggie Bush will likely see the lion's share of the carries. The Chargers have been pretty good against opposing RBs this season.
Daniel Thomas re-injures hamstring
Friday, September 30, 2011, 10:02am
Either the Dolphins got lucky or had tremendous foresight in adding Steve Slaton because tailback Daniel Thomas, who is leading the team with 202 rushing yards, had his practice participation limited on Thursday because the hamstring injury he's been nursing for three weeks flared up.
Keep an eye on Thomas's participation on Friday. That will give us a better indication of the seriousness of the "flare up." If Thomas can't go or is limited on Sunday, then Reggie Bush would suddenly become a decent RB2/flex play, especially in PPR leagues.

The Miami Dolphins claimed former Texans RB Steve Slaton on waivers.
The rise and fall of Steve Slaton has been one of the more perplexing stories in fantasy circles in recent years. A former first round fantasy pick, Slaton was relegated to RB4 duties in Houston before being cut. HC Gary Kubiak lauded Slaton for the work he's done to shape his game to fit the Texans' mold. But he was cut anyway, which is probably a good sign for Arian Foster owners -- it's unlikely that they'd feel comfortable cutting Slaton if they didn't think Foster would be back this season.
Slaton joins a crowded Dolphins backfield that is now led by Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush. It's unlikely that he'll see any significant playing time as long as those two RBs are healthy.

Texans are releasing former feature back Steve Slaton and promoting RB Chris Ogbonnaya from practice squad to take his place
Wednesday, August 31, 2011, 2:11pm
RB Steve Slaton returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since before preseason. He’s been out with a hamstring injury. Slaton, who rushed for almost 1,300 yards as a rookie in 2008, was going to be trade material if the first three backs stayed healthy.
Arian Foster is expected to play in the opener against Indianapolis. Derrick Ward and Ben Tate are competing for playing time behind Foster. Because Slaton hasn’t carried the ball, he’ll probably be waived Friday. After his impressive rookie season, Slaton underwent neck surgery, but the emergence of Foster and Ward last season kept him tied to the bench.
We're not so sure about Foster's availability given John Clayton's recent comments on Twitter (that Foster "has a tear" and could miss 3-4 weeks), so the Texans may retain Slaton as insurance.

The Texans entered training camp with a crowded backfield, but they’ll likely be down three key running backs in their preseason opener against the New York Jets on Monday night.
Arian Foster, Steve Slaton and Ben Tate are all expected to miss the game because of hamstring injuries. Texans coach Gary Kubiak said on Saturday morning that his team’s running back rotation will consist of Derrick Ward, Chris Ogbonnaya and newly-signed Javarris Williams.
“Tate just hasn’t come along,” Kubiak said. “Everybody thought he could – our trainers, our doctors – but he hasn’t. So, we’ll listen to him. Arian, we’ve been shooting for next week with Arian the whole time.”
Foster wouldn’t have played much anyway, since the Texans’ starters will take only 10-12 snaps against the Jets. But each preseason game could be invaluable to Slaton and Tate, who are fighting for playing time and perhaps a spot on the roster.

Adam Caplan said: For those who have asked about Texans RB Steve Slaton, I expect him to be dealt by the the end of his month as long as RB Ben Tate shows that he's back from his leg injury.
Monday, August 1, 2011, 12:54pm
Texan RB Ben Tate was taking reps ahead of Steve Slaton today. Tate looked like he never had injury. Looked decisive.
Tate could still be behind Derrick Ward by the end of camp, and both will be behind Arian Foster, obviously. Something to monitor, though, if you take or protect Foster this year and you want to target his backup.
