Tarvaris Jackson didn't learn that fellow quarterback Sage Rosenfels had been traded to the New York Giants on Saturday night until one of his friends informed him of the deal.

"I really didn't have a reaction," Jackson said. "I knew somebody had to leave, so it was just waiting pretty much [to find out]."

The trade left Jackson as the Vikings backup to Brett Favre for a second consecutive season. But did it leave him happy?

Arizona QB Max Hall Might Start At Some Point
Sunday, September 5, 2010, 1:05pm

Pro Football Talk - [Full Article]

Appearing on Saturday's Notre Dame-Purdue halftime show, Peter King of NBC Sports revealed the details of his recent conversation with Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

According to King, Whisenhunt called Max Hall "the best of our four quarterbacks" in training camp.

Whisenhunt is clearly comfortable with the undrafted rookie from Brigham Young as his primary backup, having released Matt Leinart to promote Hall. The Cardinals also are not known to have made a serious run at Sage Rosenfels, who was the best quarterback available on the trade market prior to his acquisition by the Giants.

But there could be more to this story. Much more.

Whisenhunt acknowledged that Hall outplayed current starter Derek Anderson, strongly indicating that Anderson could be on a short leash. Anderson's contract is also heavily incentive laden, based on starts and statistics. If he doesn't prove to be the answer, it will present a lose-lose situation for Arizona. The Cardinals could end up losing money, in addition to games.

Despite his recent elevation to the starting job, Anderson's job security is weak, and his post-2007 track record inspires no confidence. At this point, we wouldn't be surprised if Hall is starting games by the Cardinals' Week 6 bye.

Fantasy Impact:

Most rookie quarterbacks struggle, so don't expect Hall to make a big fantasy impact in 2010. But he could be a very nice prospect for owners in keeper leagues.

Opening night is less than two weeks away and Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings are still trying to figure out exactly what they have in a banged-up receiving corps and a rotating offensive line.

They took some steps in the right direction Saturday night during the team's 24-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Favre’s two newest targets made pretty good impressions just days after arriving in Minnesota.

Greg Camarillo had four catches for 47 yards and Javon Walker made a great catch over Walter Thurmond for a 25-yard TD from Sage Rosenfels in the fourth quarter.

Favre, who was coaxed back for a 20th NFL season on Aug. 18, played eight series on Saturday night. He led the Vikings to one field goal and a touchdown, a 24-yard run by Adrian Peterson that was set up by a 73-yard kickoff return by Darius Reynaud.

Peterson finished with 37 yards on 11 carries.

The Vikings also had to be encouraged by Percy Harvin’s return. The reigning offensive rookie of the year has only practiced six times this preseason because of recurring migraine headaches, including a bout that caused trainers to call an ambulance to practice just over a week ago.

Harvin had two catches for 30 yards.

QB Sage Rosenfels On The Outs In Minnesota?
Sunday, June 13, 2010, 4:22pm

Minneapolis Star Tribune - [Full Article]

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, rookie quarterback Joe Webb has impressed the Vikings with his efforts this offseason.

Webb got second-team reps for both of yesterday's indoor practices at Winter Park, leaving veteran Sage Rosenfels as a spectator for much of the time. Tarvaris Jackson got the first-team reps in both practices.

Rosenfels declined to comment afterward.

Rosenfels got all of two snaps in 11-on-11 work in the afternoon. That was the same as R.J. Archer, who is essentially the Vikings' fifth-string quarterback.

Fantasy Impact:

There are some teams that could use Rosenfels (Buffalo comes to mind) if the Vikings believe Jackson and Webb are their best options behind Brett Favre. While Sage has never been a consistent fantasy player, he can rack up big numbers once in awhile. If he gets a chance someplace else in a decent situation, he might be worthy of a spot start in the right matchup.

Vikings QBs Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels find themselves in an extremely difficult situation this offseason. Many assume that Favre will return in 2010, despite last week's report that he needs ankle surgery. However, if he doesn't Jackson and Rosenfels likely will battle for the starting job and Vikings coach Brad Childress indicated at the NFL Owners meetings in March that Jackson would have the upper-hand entering that competition.
