Rookie receiver DeVier Posey entered Sunday’s game with one catch for 19 yards. On Sunday, he had three catches for 46 yards — including a 36-yarder.

Posey was getting more playing time, ahead of No. 2 receiver Kevin Walter. Walter had two catches for 11 yards.

“We like what we see from Posey in practice, and we’re playing him more,” coach Gary Kubiak said.

“What has taken place over the period of the last month is a young player who has really stepped up, so we’re going to give him more opportunities to help us.”

Kubiak: Andre Johnson should return to practice "next week"

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Tuesday that he hopes injured wide receiver Andre Johnson could return to the field next Monday.

Johnson pulled his groin while making a catch during Sunday morning’s training camp practice at the Methodist Training Center. An MRI revealed it to be a minor injury. The All-Pro receiver has been able to jog lightly at practice as he moves with the team from period to period.

“I would say next week,” Kubiak said of Johnson’s targeted return date. “I’d love to tell you that’s Monday. I hope it’s Monday, but I would say next week.”

With Johnson out, second-year receiver Lestar Jean has been practicing as a starter along with veteran Kevin Walter. Rookie third-round draft pick DeVier Posey has stood out in practice with several nice catches over the last two days.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans have released WR Jacoby Jones after drafting two receivers: Ohio State’s DeVier Posey in the third round (68th overall) and Michigan State’s Keshawn Martin in the fourth round (121st overall).

Now that the Texans have used a third-round pick on Ohio State WR DeVier Posey, they will attempt to trade veteran WR Jacoby Jones.
