Fitzgerald’s absence is a boost for John Brown and Michael Floyd, who should both see plenty of targets in a very good matchup against the Falcons. HC Bruce Arians said last week that he should have done a better job dialing up plays for Floyd, who only saw two targets against the Seahawks. Brown has played well with Drew Stanton under center.

Mulligan caught a team-high four passes for 39 yards, including a 23-yarder to the Jacksonville 2 that set up a late touchdown, helping the Bears rally for a 20-19 preseason win.
“We’ve seen it during practice,” said coach Marc Trestman. “We’ve seen his speed in practice, we’ve seen his ability to run vertically up the field and make plays, which showed up [Thursday] night and it’s showed up in practice. He’s shown good hands and good speed, besides his ability to block at his point of attack, so we’re excited about it.”
With tight end Zachary Miller suffering a season-ending foot injury against the Jaguars, Mulligan’s role could expand, but perhaps not to being considered fantasy-worthy. Dante Rosario sat out the Jacksonville game with a sore calf, leaving Mulligan, starter Martellus Bennett and Jeron Mastrud as the Bears’ only healthy tight ends. We heard rumors of the Bears using two TE sets when Miller was standing out, but it remains to be seen if they continue down that road now that he's lost for the season.

Tight end Martellus Bennett remained on suspension as the Bears opened their preseason against the Philadelphia Eagles Friday night in Soldier Field. In his absence, backups Dante Rosario and Zach Miller in particular made early impressions.
Rosario caught two passes for 28 yards in the first quarter, while Miller completed a Bears scoring drive with a 10-yard catch in traffic from Jay Cutler. Matthew Mulligan, primarily a blocking tight end, also worked in on a number of snaps in the first quarter.

During an individual drill in which the quarterbacks faked a handoff and rolled out to throw a pass into the target netting, Young was on top of his game. Rolling to his left and throwing across his body, Young went 3 for 3 in the drill, successfully landing each of his passes into the small netted opening. He was by far the most accurate quarterback in that drill, even better than Aaron Rodgers.
"Vince Young is clearly different today than he was this time last week," McCarthy said. "He's progressing. We've been able to spend some extra time with him. It's been beneficial."
This comes as comforting news for Packer fans, as Young could serve as a solid stopgap option if Rodgers were to get injured.

Moving to shore up more holes on the depth chart, the Rams agreed to terms with a pair of free agents Monday — wide receiver Steve Smith of Philadelphia and tight end Matthew Mulligan of the New York Jets.
Smith’s deal is for one year; Mulligan’s is for two years.
If Smith is healthy, the Rams could have some much-needed help in their wide receiver corps. As a member of the New York Giants in 2009, he set a franchise record with 107 catches, good for 1,220 yards which was the second-highest total in Giants history, and made the Pro Bowl.
But left knee problems, including microfracture surgery late in the 2010 season, have slowed his career. He also ended up on the injured reserve list last December as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Smith, 5-11, 195 pounds, is 26.

Collins went 11-of-14 for 102 yards and threw a 6-yard TD pass to Justin Gage in the first quarter. The 36-year-old Collins can still throw it as hard and far as always and he showed soft touch on several balls.
"Kerry spread the ball around quite a bit," Titans coach Jeff Fisher said. "We got some things accomplished that we didn't see last week. I was pleased with the drives. We gave up a couple of plays, but I thought we handled the run with the starters"
With Ramsey" class="player_name_link">Patrick Ramsey nursing sore ribs, Vince Young played three quarters and went 17-of-24 for 174 yards. He threw a 15-yard TD pass to tight end Matthew Mulligan but also threw an interception that was returned 11 yards for a TD by Browns linebacker Alex Hall.
