Sammy Morris Fantasy News
Felix Jones ACTIVE for Cowboys
Saturday, December 24, 2011, 8:06pm
The Cowboys reported no inactive players, which means Felix Jones is active.
He may give it a go if the Giants lose to the Jets. If the Giants win, the game is meaningless to the Cowboys, so they are likely to let him rest and rid Sammy Morris instead.

Report: Felix Jones will not play if Giants win
Saturday, December 24, 2011, 3:51pm
FoxSports Southwest's Matt Mosley: "If the Giants beat the Jets, Felix Jones will not play a snap vs Eagles. Jets win, he's 50-50."
ESPN Dallas's Bryan Broaddus: "Hearing the same info about Felix Jones playing as @mattmosley is. If NYG win, he will not play. If NYJ win, there is a better shot."
It never made sense that the Cowboys would rush Jones back if the game was meaningless, especially if they faced a must-win game the following week. It sounds as if he's likely to be active (assuming his hammy is good enough to play) and then his workload will be determined based on the outcome of the Jets/Giants game. There's always the chance that he's not healthy enough to play even if Dallas needs the win. Bottom line: Felix Jones is not a worthwhile fantasy play this week, while Sammy Morris looks like a fringe RB2 with considerable risk. He looked good last week, but he's still a 34-year-old who was sitting on his couch two weeks ago. Generally speaking, he has been able to produce when given the opportunity.
Cowboys expect Felix Jones to play
Friday, December 23, 2011, 4:07pm
The Cowboys still are hopeful Felix Jones will play Saturday despite the running back missing another day of practice because of tightness in his hamstring.
Jones worked on the side with associate athletic trainer Britt Brown as the team began Thursday's practice. He was running and cutting, seemingly without problems.
Owner Jerry Jones expects Jones to be ready to go against the Eagles."He's going to be involved in all team stuff," the owner said Thursday. "He should be able to get anything he needs to get about the game plan, about what we're trying to do. We'll just let this thing get measured."
We're not so sure we believe the Cowboys when they say that the outcome of the Giants/Jets game will have no impact on Jones's workload against the Eagles. If the Giants win, the Cowboys' game against the Eagles will be meaningless. Dallas may still try to win the game, but it's not pragmatic to put Jones at risk when they would be facing a must-win game against the Giants the following week. Sammy Morris would get the lion's share of the touches if Jones misses time.

The running back position has changed quite a bit for the Cowboys in the last few days. A unit that DeMarco Murray made a team strength, has been decimated by injuries and forced to search the waiver wire for depth.
After moving Murray to the IR with a broken ankle, the Cowboys added veteran runner Sammy Morris on Tuesday, meaning playoff hopes rest on the shoulders of a Felix Jones / Morris backfield.
“He knows the offense, and his ability to block and do the kinds of things away from the ball, not just as a running back, that can be productive running,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said of Morris Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM).
While Morris will be the backup, Jerry Jones expects Felix Jones to takeover Murray’s role as the team’s workhorse back.

Dallas Cowboys roster moves: RB Sammy Morris and S Mana Silva signed to 53-man roster. DeMarco Murray to IR. CB C.J. Wilson to practice squad.

The New England Patriots have released veteran running back Sammy Morris.
Pats RB Fred Taylor ruled out again
Friday, October 15, 2010, 8:33pm
As expected, Patriots rule veteran RB Fred Taylor out for Sunday's game.
Look for BenJarvus Green-Ellis to get some snaps along with Danny Woodhead and Sammy Morris in a tough matchup against the Ravens.
ALERT: Pats Fred Taylor inactive
Tuesday, October 5, 2010, 12:12am
Patriots rookie linebacker Dane Fletcher and rookie defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick will make their NFL debuts Monday night against the Dolphins.
New England's inactive list includes offensive lineman Nick Kaczur (back), cornerback Terrence Wheatley (foot) and running back Fred Taylor (toe) won't play due to injury, and running back Thomas Clayton, linebacker Shawn Crable, offensive lineman Rich Ohrnberger, wide receiver Taylor Price and defensive lineman Kyle Love will also miss the game. The last five players did not appear on this week's injury report.
Fletcher had been a healthy scratch in the first three games of the regular season, while Deaderick was a healthy scratch during two of his three missed games.
Without Taylor and Clayton, the Patriots will only have three running backs against the Dolphins -- BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Sammy Morris and Danny Woodhead.
Patriots RB Fred Taylor Officially Out for Monday
Saturday, October 2, 2010, 10:58pm
In an anticipated move, the Patriots downgraded veteran running back Fred Taylor to out for Monday's game against Miami. Taylor has missed the week of practice with a toe injury.
This thrusts third-year running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis into the top spot, and also is likely to mean Thomas Clayton - signed to a two-year contract Thursday - is active for the game.
The Patriots would have Green-Ellis as the lead back, followed by Sammy Morris, Clayton and Danny Woodhead.
In addition, offensive lineman Nick Kaczur (back) and cornerback Terrence Wheatley (foot) have been ruled out for Monday's game. Neither player has practiced during the regular season.
It's naturally scary to start a New England running back, but you could do a lot worse than Green-Ellis this week.
New England RB Fred Taylor Misses Another Practice
Saturday, October 2, 2010, 3:53pm
On a day that usually has them flying down to wherever they’ve playing, the Patriots held practice today on the Gillette Stadium practice fields in preparation for Monday night’s game against the Dolphins.
Tomorrow, of course, will be travel day. So, what happened at Patriots practice?
As it turns out, the Patriots worked out without running back Fred Taylor for the fourth consecutive day. Based on past precedent, that would indicate Taylor (toe) will be out for the Dolphins game, though it hasn’t been made official.
With Taylor likely to be out, BenJarvus Green-Ellis will see a lot action. We can expect to see a dose of Sammy Morris and Danny Woodhead as well. Green-Ellis is the best fantasy choice, but as always, the New England running back situation is unpredictable.
Sunday, September 26, 2010, 10:10pm
The Patriots announced RB Fred Taylor was questionable to return to the game due to a toe injury.
The committee of Sammy Morris, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead have been effective in handling the rushing duties for the Patriots. Green-Ellis has 12 carries for 66 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown that stretched the Patriots’ lead to 38-23, while Woodhead has three carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.

The Patriots are preparing for life without their veteran captain, with Faulk having torn his right ACL in Sunday's loss to the New York Jets, an NFL source confirmed. What could mean the end of Faulk's impressive career also means the Patriots must draw up new plans quickly.
Sammy Morris stepped into the "passing back" role when Faulk was knocked out in the fourth quarter, and he's the likely replacement in the short term. Former New York Jets running back Danny Woodhead, signed to a one-year contract Saturday, also figures to be in the mix.
