Utecht, who suffered a concussion on Aug. 5 in training camp, has been put on the Reserve/Injured list. Sherry injured his shoulder in camp Aug. 10 and has been released via the waived/injured category.
If Sherry clears waivers Tuesday, Sept. 1, he will revert to the Bengals’ Reserve/Injured list. The moves reduce the Bengals roster to 75 players, in advance of the league-mandated cut to 75 on Sept. 1.
Tight end Daniel Coats didn't get a chance to rest on his laurels after what position coach Jon Hayes called his most aggressive performance to date as an NFL blocker Friday night in the preseason opener in New Orleans.
Coats sat out Monday afternoon's practice in order to rest his gimpy ankle. In fact, so did every tight end in camp but rookie Darius Hill. Rookie Chase Coffman is believed to be resting the foot he broke last year and Matt Sherry may have anything from a shoulder injury to a leg injury to sore muscles.

UTECHT STATUS: What decision does tight end Ben Utecht make after he meets the neurologists Monday and Tuesday following test to discuss his injury history? Is he out for the year or longer or does he come back?
If he's out, that would give the team a blocking tight end in Daniel Coats and a receiving tight end in rookie Chase Coffman. The two remaining tight ends on the roster, '08 sixth-rounder Matt Sherry and college free agent Darius Hill, aren't blockers and the Bengals may decide if they have to go out and get one for the last spot at that position.
