Olindo Mare Fantasy News

Starting running back LeGarrette Blount fumbled on Tampa Bay's first play from scrimmage, leading to Olindo Mare's field goal.
Blount was benched until the second half.
"It's a basic thing, and to fumble like that, that's unacceptable," Morris said. "If some players aren't ready to play, we'll put others in."
Blount has been in trouble for fumbling before and lost carries to Caddy Williams last year at key times in the game when he just wasn't trusted. This year, with Earnest Graham lost for the year, the Bucs didn't have many options but it didn't stop the team from sitting Blount this time.

Ron Rivera says Olindo Mare and Adi Kunalic will continue to compete at kicker, but only 1 will be active on game day.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera plans to meet with general manager Marty Hurney today to discuss the future of kicker Olindo Mare, who missed another short field goal with the game on the line in Sunday's 31-23 loss to Atlanta.
Rivera left open the possibility that the Panthers could bring in kickers to try out Tuesday.
“We'll evaluate that and we go through this. This is a very veteran kicker, a very experienced guy that's had a couple of misses. Very unfortunate,” Rivera said. “The timing of the misses are about as bad as they get, obviously. We've got to think this through and go through the process, and make sure we make good decisions.”

Former Steelers K Jeff Reed worked out in Seattle today for the Seahawks. The Seahawks recently lost Olindo Mare to the Panthers.
PK Olindo Mare 104 Out Of 104

Nobody’s perfect?
Olindo Mare is showing otherwise.
The Seahawks’ veteran kicker has been successful on all 104 of his kicks in team and individual drills during the minicamps and OTAs this offseason, earning astonishment from special teams coordinator Brian Schneider and his teammates.
“He’s incredible,” Schneider said, adding that not only is Mare making the kicks, but they’re almost all directly in the middle of the uprights. “He’s so accurate and consistent. It makes you feel confident that you’re going to get points when you get the opportunity.”
Kickers are sometimes an afterthought in fantasy football but 104 out of 104 is definitely great off-season news.

Upon further review, Jim Mora admitted to a little unnecessary roughness after Sunday's game.
Seattle's coach said he was a little too critical of Olindo Mare's kicking after Sunday's loss to Chicago.
"I let the emotion of the game get to me in my answers about Olindo," Mora said Monday.
Seattle's kicker won't get the boot after Mare missed two of his six field-goal attempts in Sunday's 25-19 loss to Chicago. While his coach isn't satisfied with that performance, he was no longer seething. In fact, he was spreading sunshine.
"I have very high, high expectations for Olindo," Mora said. "And it's because of the work that he has done in this league. He has been an outstanding kicker."

PK Olindo Mare may have kicked his way to a second Seahawk season in Seattle. He made the one field goal he attempted in the first half, and three of his four kickoffs went deep into the end zone for touchbacks. Brandon Coutu did not have a touchback in his three kickoffs in the third quarter.

In the battle between Seahawks PK Olindo Mare and Brandon Coutu, neither distinguished himself on Saturday. Mare missed field goal attempts from 51 and 27 yards, and Coutu, who had been 11-for-11 in exhibition field-goal attempts the past two years, missed badly from 51 yards.
“That wasn’t a real positive for us,” Mora said about the kicking game against Kansas City. “The field goals were disappointing. But no, we’re not (close to making a decision) unfortunately.”

Matt Hasselbeck, defensive end Cory Redding, wide receiver Deion Branch, linebacker D.D. Lewis, tackle Ray Willis and center Chris Spencer return to practice. All sat out the morning session at team headquarters in suburban Renton.
Wide receiver Nate Burleson, running backs Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett, defensive end Lawrence Jackson and kicker Olindo Mare sat out both practices. A team spokesman said they were simply resting.
Cowboys PK Nick Folk update
Friday, June 5, 2009, 9:11pm
Not long after the draft, Cowboys PK Nick Folk had hip surgery that will keep him out until training camp. I ran into Folk at the Poker for Pets event Thursday and he said he is feeling great and ready to do some light - extremely light - running on Monday. Renowned surgeon Dr. Marc Philippon performed Folk's surgery in Vail, Colo., and said Folk should come back stronger and never have an issue with the labrum again. Folk said he should be able to start kicking a volleyball in mid- to late June. Why a volleyball? It's lighter and offers less resistance. And he will move up from there. He talked with Olindo Mare, Seattle's kicker, who had the same surgery not too long ago about what to do and what not to do in his rehab. And it's interesting to note Indianapolis' Adam Vinatieri recently had hip surgery too.
