Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. Joique Bell isn't a bad add as we play the waiting game on Leshoure's ankle injury. The matchup (IND) is tasty. Kevin Smith may also be a factor -- he played more snaps than Bell in Week 12.

Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (not injury related) was absent for practice on Wednesday. Leshoure may have suffered a leg injury in the third quarter of Week 8's win, but HC Jim Schwartz insists that his absence isn't injury related. Joique Bell figures to step in if Leshoure can't play, and Kevin Smith would serve as his backup. The Jaguars are #29 in RB aFPA.
He didn’t return, but HC Jim Schwartz said it was not due to injury.
“[Joique Bell] was doing some good things for us and we were rotating our backs too,’’ Schwartz said. “Kevin Smith played a lot of third downs and then Joique was playing Joique was on that last series. Mikel, I thought ran the ball well today too.’’
Leshoure finished with 10 carries for 46 yards rushing and three catches for nine yards. While Bell had seven for 25 yards rushing and four catches for 33 yards. Smith had just one run for one yard and also had one reception for seven yards.
It's possible that this is a sign that Bell's role will continue to grow.

Smith rushed 29 times for 115 yards and one touchdown, plus had a receiving touchdown, in Detroit's first two games this season. Detroit used him as a receiver on a few plays against the Tennessee Titans, but he has not carried the ball since Week 2.
Smith can safely be dropped if you were still holding out hope for a return to a significant role.

Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (groin, questionable) took limited practice reps all week and is questionable for Week 4. Given his workload in Week 3, Joique Bell would likely get the call if Leshoure can't play, but it's likely that Kevin Smith would be more involved as well.
"He only had a few carries in the preseason," quarterback Matthew Stafford said. "We will see what he's available to do and what he's comfortable doing. It's nice to have another back and to have some depth, but it's yet to be seen how he feels."
There has been a lot of buzz about Leshoure as he has come off of suspension, but we doubt that he takes over the RB1 job without an injury to Kevin Smith. It was just the preseason, but Leshoure rushed 20 times for just 44 yards, though he did catch two passes, and one went for 33 yards. He is a nice speculative add, but don't expect a lot right away.

Lions running back Mikel Leshoure is eligible to return to the 53-man roster today, after serving his two-game suspension.
The Lions have to make a roster move to clear space for Leshoure, who’s expected to take over as the starter before long.
Kevin Smith and Joique Bell will likely still be in the mix for work, but this is yet another indication that those close to the team feel LeShoure will eventually be in line for the most work. We'll still have to see how the workload sorts itself out, at least for next week, but if LeShoure is on your wire he seems like a guy to pick up as everyone is hurting for running backs.

Detroit Free Press beat writer Dave Birkett said about RB Kevin Smith:
He'll "be hard-pressed to keep the starting job when RB Mikel Leshoure returns."
LeShoure is serving a two-game suspension and it seems like he'll be thrown right in to a heavy workload upon return. Smith will likely also be a factor, but from all indications LeShoure is the guy to own. Joique Bell did score on his first NFL carry.

Returning to practice Monday was running back Kevin Smith (ankle).
"I didn't want to be injured, so when I get scared like that, I kind of lost it a little bit."
Smith, who had a high ankle sprain last season, was concerned he suffered a similar injury. A medical evaluation revealed it was only a minor tweak.
"I feel better," Smith said. "I wasn't in a walking boot or anything like that. I've got all my movement. Obviously it's fresh and I still have some swelling, but it's good."
Smith is in line for lots of work early in the season so this is great news for his owners.
