Patriots WR Chad Ochocinco boarded a plane bound for the Miami area last night past 6 p.m., according to a source, and he planned to attend his father’s funeral today.

With the Patriots playing in the AFC Championship game on Sunday at 3 p.m., Ochocinco plans to get back in time for the game. With weather concerns around the country — it’s snowing in Boston — it’s not a sure thing.

New England Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco will be out for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ochocinco popped up on the injury report with a hamstring injury on Friday and did not practice. He was listed as questionable.

It will be the first game Ochocinco will miss this season.

Fantasy Impact:

Ochocinco isn't on very many rosters, and it's doubtful the Patriots are going to miss him all that much.

The most exciting new face when Chad Ochocinco was brought aboard, to say that he has struggled is an understatement. Within the last month, teammates could be seen telling him where to line up before the snap, and because of that he hasn’t been able to contribute when the Patriots go to the no-huddle, which is a significant part of their offense. He hasn’t had a catch in three straight games, though he was targeted five times against the Giants. Tom Brady again expressed confidence in Ochocinco this week, and privately teammates say he’s putting in the work. With Deion Branch unable to get open like he used to and defenses starting to show more attention to Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots have little choice but to get Ochocinco ready for a bigger role.

The Patriots continued to favor a multiple-TE package, with the wrinkle this week coming with varied personnel within it. Offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien used a lot of "heavy" looks out of that with offensive tackle Nate Solder one of the tight ends. Receiver Chad Ochocinco was integrated more into those 2 WR snaps as well. The hurry-up attack was used with receivers Deion Branch/Wes Welker and tight ends Rob Gronkowski/Aaron Hernandez.

Patriots WR Chad Ochocinco is not on the field when New England runs its no-huddle package, and there are still times when either Brady or another teammate is telling him where he is supposed to be lining up.

Part of the discussion during their week 7 bye will likely will be what the Patriots would lose if they cut ties: the team gave a fifth-round pick in 2012 as well as a sixth-rounder in 2013 to the Bengals. Ochocinco received a $4.5 million signing bonus as soon as he joined the team, and his base salary of $1 million is guaranteed because he was on the roster in Week 1.

Fantasy Impact:

The team was rumored to be interested in Brandon Lloyd, who has since been traded to the Rams. The no-huddle is a big part of the Patriots offensive scheme and no being in that means Ocho's fantasy potential is pretty dim.

Patriots beat writer Rich Garvin on the status of WR Chad Ochocinco: "Two observations on the Ochocinco 'situation,' if you will. First, he’s currently on pace to finish with 27 receptions. Maybe he’ll end up with a few more, but anything above 35 or 40 would be shocking. It’s not like the 33-year-old Ochocinco was brought to Foxboro to be the No. 1 receiver, which was his role in Cincinnati for the last nine years. Or, for that matter, the second, third or fourth receiver. In the hierarchy of Patriots pass-catchers, Ochocinco is — and will continue to be — behind Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez, Rob Gronkowski, Deion Branch and, because of the way running backs are involved in the passing game, Danny Woodhead and/or Kevin Faulk, should Faulk return. He can master the offense all he wants — he isn’t moving up the ladder more than a rung."

Fantasy Impact:

Garvin's words certainly don't inspire confidence in Ochocinco's prospects for the rest of the season. His snaps increased exponentially in Week 3, but he's likely to go back to part-time duties once TE Aaron Hernandez returns.

Aaron Hernandez "trying to make it back for this week."
Wednesday, September 28, 2011, 12:20pm

Boston.com - [Full Article]

Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, who suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee in Week 2, said today that he's working his way back and hopes to play as soon as possible.

"I'm feeling good, man," Hernandez told reporters. "I just take it day by day and work with the trainers and try to get back as soon as possible."

Hernandez would not give a definitive answer as to when he thought he might be back, but he did it it might be sooner rather than later. The closest Hernandez came to revealing his status for Week 4 was after he was asked a fantasy football question.

"I haven't heard much about the fantasy football," he said. "Not really worried about fantasy football, just trying to get back and get healthy and trying to make it back for this week."

Fantasy Impact:

Hernandez's return would put a small dent in the stock of Rob Gronkowski. It would also hurt Chad Ochocinco, but his stock can't take much more of a beating at this point.

Asked about receiver Chad Ochocinco, Patriots Tom Brady said he has a lot of confidence in him. He also noted that Ochocinco has been more involved in the passing game in recent weeks.

Brady said Ochocinco "wants to do the right thing" and "spends time after practice trying to get it right." Brady sees progress.
