Titans QB Jake Locker is retiring.

Statement from Locker: "I am retiring from football after much reflection and discussion with my family. I will always be grateful for having had the opportunity to realize my childhood dream of playing in the NFL and for the lifelong relationships I developed because of that experience. Football has always played a pivotal role in my life and I love the game, but I no longer have the burning desire necessary to play the game for a living; to continue to do so would be unfair to the next organization with whom I would eventually sign. I realize this decision is surprising to many, but I know in my heart that it is the right decision and I look forward to spending more time with my family and pursuing other interests.”

ESPN - [Full Article]

Titans quarterback Jake Locker was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Jets late in the first half with a shoulder injury.

Locker was hit by outside linebacker Quinton Coples as he threw a deep incomplete pass for Derek Hagan. The Titans said Locker has a left shoulder injury.

Fantasy Impact:

Charlie Whitehurst replaced Locker for the Titans. The status for a QB starter for Week 16 is up in the air, but Locker nor Whitehurst are all that great of fantasy options at this point.

Titans QB Zach Mettenberger (right shoulder, out) missed practice all week and is out for Week 15. Jake Locker is going to get the start and he’s a worthwhile streaming option for desperate owners given a favorable matchup against the Jets.

QB Zach Mettenberger is out for the year with an AC joint separation, source said. This is following his MRI.

Fantasy Impact:

The team will turn to Jake Locker at QB, but as we've been saying for the past two days, the Titans offense certainly seems like one to stay away from especially during the fantasy playoff season.

Zach Mettenberger suffers 'more severe' AC joint sprain

Sunday, December 7, 2014, 7:33pm

NFL.com - [Full Article]

Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger left Sunday's game against the Giants early in the fourth quarter after getting blasted by rookie linebacker Devon Kennard, who was on a blitz coming from Mettenberger's blind side. And his last three games of the year are in doubt.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday evening that the Titans believe the signal-caller suffered a more severe AC joint sprain than he sustained in Week 13, per a team source, and his season is likely over.

Fantasy Impact:

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean tweeted later Sunday the fear is Mettenberger is lost for the season. The first-year quarterback was having a rough day, as were the rest of the Titans. Trailing by nearly 30 points, his day finished at 14-of-24 passing for 125 yards and an interception. It looks like Jake Locker will fill in the rest of the way if Mettenberger is indeed out. But, Locker also fumbled during a sack, which was returned for a touchdown by Markus Kuhn. The Titan offense is one to stay away from in your fantasy lineup.

Titans QB Zach Mettenberger injures right shoulder

Sunday, November 30, 2014, 4:40pm

NFL.com - [Full Article]

Titans QB Zach Mettenberger's suffered a right shoulder injury after being driven into the turf. Mettenberger remained on the field for several minutes before walking slowly to the sideline. He was eventually escorted to the locker room, never returning to the contest.

Fantasy Impact:

Keep in mind it is his throwing shoulder, but Mettenberger believes he's going to be able to play in Week 14, which should be taken with a grain of salt at this point of the week. Jake Locker replaced Mettenberger in the game and could continue to if Mettenberger needs to miss time. Locker threw an interception on his first pass attempt and finished with two INTs. He did throw a TD. The Titans have favorable matchups for QBs the rest of the season for the most part, but with a struggling O-line, Titan QBs come with risks in fantasy lineups.

Titans QB Jake Locker (right hand, probable) took full practice reps on Friday after being limited earlier in the week and is probable for Week 8. Zach Mettenberger will get the start for the Titans. He has a strong arm, which may be good for deep threat Justin Hunter.

Titans plan to stick with QB Zach Mettenberger

Thursday, October 23, 2014, 7:30pm

NFL.com - [Full Article]

Barring an injury to or a faceplant from rookie Zach Mettenberger, Jake Locker has likely started his last game for the Tennessee Titans.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed Thursday that Mettenberger will be under center Sunday versus the Houston Texans.

"We're going with Zach," Whisenhunt emphasized, "and we're going to stay with Zach."

Fantasy Impact:

Here's the scouting report on Mettenberger from NFL.com's Nolan Nawrocki: "Pure dropback, strong-armed thrower who will require patient, confidence-building play-calling and a clean pocket to function at a high level in the NFL. Has starter talent in a vertical, downfield passing attack if he can learn to take command of a huddle and continue progressing as a decision-maker." Mettenberger under center could be a good thing for Justin Hunter, who is the Titans' best deep threat. Conversely, Kendall Wright may not see as many short passes if Mettenberger insists on pushing the ball down the field.

Report: Titans plan to start QB Zach Mettenberger in Week 8

Wednesday, October 22, 2014, 11:32pm

Tennessean - [Full Article]

The Titans plan to start rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger against the Texans on Sunday, according to sources familiar with the situation.

The move could also signal the beginning of the end for quarterback Jake Locker in Tennessee. The fourth-year pro has missed the last two games with a thumb injury and has struggled with injuries throughout his career.

Indications are Mettenberger was informed of the decision Tuesday night. He was not in the locker room after practice Wednesday, when Locker was off-limits to the media. Charlie Whitehurst, who has three starts this season, said he was not allowed to talk to reporters.

Titans QB Jake Locker (right hand) took limited practice reps Wednesday. Locker is expected to make his return this week, though we’ll continue to monitor his progress. His return would probably be good news for Justin Hunter and Delanie Walker, who have both suffered in his absence.

The Titans are hoping to get starting QB Jake Locker back from his thumb sprain in time to play next week against the Texans.

Locker practiced early last week, but was then limited, and he didn’t play yesterday.

“I would expect him being able to go next week,” HC Ken Whisenhunt said, via Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean. “But until we get out there and practice, I don’t know that for sure.”

Locker practiced Wednesday, but was then limited the rest of the week with soreness in his throwing hand.

“Obviously you worry about him turning the ball over and putting one on the ground if you miss a snap or do something with ball handling,” Whisenhunt said of the decision to park him. “That’s ultimately what made the decision.”

Titans QB Jake Locker (right hand, questionable) took limited practice reps all week and is questionable for Week 7. The Tennessee beat writers seem to think that Charlie Whitehurst will get the start. Even if Locker starts, he isn’t a trustworthy play despite the nice matchup.
