Vincent Jackson Fantasy News

While reports suggest A.J. Smith now is “comfortable” exploring a long-term deal for Vincent Jackson, the Chargers wide receiver said he has yet to speak to the general manager himself.
“There hasn’t been any communication as far as contracts go,” Jackson said after Wednesday’s Pro Bowl practice. “If that’s their feeling, that’s great. I would like to stay in San Diego. Obviously, that’s my home, that’s where I was drafted. I’ve got some good guys around me -– Philip Rivers (Antonio) Gates, Ryan Mathews. It would be a great place for me to stay, so we’ll see if that works out.”
Jackson, who earned $11.4 million this past season as the team’s franchise player, said he’d prefer to avoid the tag again.

Chargers looking to lock up Vincent Jackson long term
Thursday, January 5, 2012, 12:50pm
Signing Vincent Jackson to a long-term deal would accomplish a couple things. It would allow A.J. Smith to use one of his favorite arguments about how retaining the team’s own free agents counts just as much as signing someone else’s. And getting Jackson locked up for many years on a long-term deal would constitute a great PR move considering not only his importance of Jackson to the Chargers’ passing game but the contentious history between the two sides.
Moreover, it may be the only way to keep him.
Considering all the Chargers have to do – pass rusher, strong safety, possibly replacing three starters on the offensive line, etc. – sources said this week that it is unlikely the team would place the franchise tag on Jackson again in 2012.
The tag is an option, of course, should negotiations, which the team will likely initiate in February, yield no long-term deal. But paying one receiver more than $13 million for one year, especially with so many other players to secure, is unlikely.

It is possible Vincent Jackson has played his final game as a Charger. The wide receiver, due to be an unrestricted free agent in 2012, missed practice with the groin injury that hampered him in this past Saturday’s game. It is difficult to see the Chargers pushing Jackson to play in a game that is meaningless for them. Jackson’s future with the team could hinge in part on the future of the team’s management.

Darrelle Revis could see plenty of Hakeem Nicks, the Giants' best wide receiver, on Saturday. Nicks is coming off a game in which he dropped a sure-handed touchdown pass after he lost it in the sun early in the first quarter during the Giants' 23-10 loss to the Redskins last Sunday.
Nicks is looking to redeem himself, but he is not getting caught up in the hype of a potential one-on-one matchup with Revis.
Victor Cruz, though, is looking forward to seeing those two go at it.
"Not only is [Revis] good athletically, but he watched a lot of film," Cruz said. "He knows the routes that we like to do on certain downs and distances and he picks up on tendencies. We have to be disciplined. We can't show any of our stuff and make sure we get to the right depths and using the right technique against them."
"It is going to be a good one," Cruz said of Revis against Nicks. "I think it is going to be a lot of back and forth, both guys making plays, both guys are very talented. Whoever makes that last play to win the game will be the victor."
Here's how the last few true WR1s have fared against the Jets and Revis: Dwayne Bowe (6-69), Santana Moss (5-42), Steve Johnson (8-75-1, 3-84), Vincent Jackson (1-15) and Brandon Marshall (6-109).

Chargers WR Malcom Floyd, a full participant in practice this week without setback, is listed as probable. He's looked good.
Floyd will resume his starting job opposite Vincent Jackson. Vincent Brown and Floyd are both very risky plays this weekend.

Most offenses seem to be taking a hard look at the Broncos' nickel package (five defensive backs) because of where Champ Bailey is. Against the Chargers, for example, Bailey matched up on San Diego wide receiver Vincent Jackson when the Broncos were in base defense, no matter where Jackson lined up.
However, when the Broncos went to the nickel, that moved Bailey into an inside position, where he covers the third receiver, no matter who it may be. Defenses have done this with the best cornerback all over the league because quarterbacks go to that slot receiver so often, but when the Broncos do it, quarterbacks are looking outside, especially with a chance to score, because Bailey isn't there.
Brandon Marshall will probably see plenty of Bailey on Sunday, though it sounds like Bailey will continue to play in the slot on third down.
