Matthew Stafford takes some snaps at practice
Wednesday, October 26, 2011, 5:10pm
Matthew Stafford is back in practice for the Detroit Lions on Wednesday after injuring his ankle in Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Stafford warmed up, threw the ball a few times and took a couple snaps in individual drills, but backup Shaun Hill was the featured quarterback. In all likelihood, the Lions will want to see how Stafford's ankle responds to physical activity before providing his status on the injury report around 4 p.m.
This is a great sign for Stafford owners. He still has a ways to go before we can pencil him into the starting lineup in Week 8, but the fact that he was doing anything at all at practice is good news.
QB Matthew Stafford Shines as Detroit Routs Cincinnati

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford threw touchdown passes on his two drives, while backup quarterback Shaun Hill ran for a score and Jason Hanson kicked a field goal to give Detroit a 24-3 lead at halftime. They ended up routing Cincinnati 34-3.
Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton was hit by Ndamukong Sung after taking his first NFL snap and Chris Houston intercepted the underthrown pass. Dalton, a second-round pick, finished 11 of 15 for 69 yards. He put Cincinnati in a position to attempt two field goals and Mike Nugent made one to make it 14-3.
Stafford was 6 of 7 for 71 yards. He threw a 26-yard TD pass to Calvin Johnson, who didn’t return to the field, and a 7-yarder to Nate Burleson for another score on an overturned play.
A very good start for Stafford, even if it was against the Bengals. If he can stay healthy, he'll be a very solid fantasy quarterback.

Lions backup QB Shaun Hill is part of the group of Lions taking part in player-organized workouts at Birmingham Detroit Country Day -- about 35 players attended Tuesday's session -- though he's a week removed from surgery to alleviate a disk problem in his lower back.
Hill, whose contract voids after the 2011 season, said he was told he'd be game-ready in four to six weeks and does not expect to miss training camp, whenever that begins.

QB Shaun Hill will start again for the Lions and remains bothered by a sore right index finger. WR Calvin Johnson is expected to start despite missing practice all week. The Lions did catch a break with Minnesota playing on Tuesday night in Philly and basically having only two practice days to prepare for this game.

Shaun Hill is expected to be the Lions' Week 17 starter at quarterback.

I believed Lions QB Shaun Hill was going to play last week, but when he tested his finger in warm-ups the Detroit coaches didn’t like his velocity. Today, Drew Stanton has a shoulder bruise and Hill makes the most sense, although the Lions say they will wait until this morning to make a final decision.
Shaun Hill To Start For Lions

LIONS: Looks like Shaun Hill will get the start, though that is not official. He took the first-team reps today.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz has a decision to make this week -- start a banged-up third-string quarterback who led the Lions to their first two-game winning streak in three years, or a broken-fingered backup who hasn't played in a month.
Schwartz said Monday he hasn't decided who will get the call for this week's game against the Dolphins.
Shaun Hill, who's made eight starts this year in place of regular starter Matthew Stafford, is still recovering from the broken right index finger he suffered Thanksgiving Day.
Drew Stanton has started the last three games in Hill's place, but Stanton separated his left non-throwing shoulder in Sunday's 23-20 overtime win against Tampa Bay, the Lions' first road victory since 2007.

The Lions have lost 26 straight games on the road and to turn the tide, coach Jim Schwartz may start QB Shaun Hill, looking to spark his offense. If Hill isn’t successful, the Lions can go back to Drew Stanton. WR Calvin Johnson should benefit if Hill can play and throw accurately. With talented Bucs CB Aqib Talib out for the season, Johnson should have an easy time against CB E.J. Biggers. Despite the revolving door of QBs, Johnson leads the Lions with 63 catches for 916 yards.
