Derek Hagan Fantasy News

Bills wide receiver Derek Hagan, who was picked up off waivers a couple of weeks back, is ready to have a role in Buffalo’s offense down the stretch and is expected to be active against the Chargers this weekend.
Just how extensive Hagan’s role is remains to be seen, especially in light of how effective Brad Smith has been in the number two wideout spot the past two weeks. Still Hagan has gone out of his way to establish a rapport with Ryan Fitzpatrick.
We've seen some unlikely players (Scott Chandler) have success in Buffalo's offense, but Hagan isn't worth picking up right now.

The Buffalo Bills promoted wide receiver Kamar Aiken to the active roster and signed veteran wide receiver Derek Hagan.
And they placed wide receiver Donald Jones and cornerback Terrence McGee on injured reserve, ending their seasons.
Aiken spent the first 11 weeks of the season on the Bills' practice squad after joining the Bills as an undrafted free agent in July. The 6-2, 213-pound Central Florida product totaled 121 catches for 1,924 yards and 17 touchdowns in his collegiate career.
Hagan entered the NFL as a third-round (82nd overall) draft pick of Miami in 2006. He has spent time on the rosters of Miami (2006-08), New York Giants (2008-10) and Oakland (2011). The 6-2, 215-pound Arizona State product has played in 65 games, making seven starts and recorded 96 catches for 1,083 yards and five touchdowns.

The Oakland Raiders’ bye week is a working week for quarterback Carson Palmer.
In the aftermath of his three-interception debacle in Sunday’s 28-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Palmer is using this bye week to build chemistry with the Raiders’ receivers. After Wednesday’s practice, the Raiders must take a four-day NFL-mandated break from organized workouts. However, Palmer and several receivers plan to remain in town to work out on their own. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Jacoby Ford, Louis Murphy and Derek Hagan all told the Contra Costa Times that they would not leave town during the bye.
Palmer and his receivers need the extra work. This is another reason to be optimistic about Heyward-Bey's season-long prospects. He has come into his own this season with four-straight 82+ yard games. Better yet, he has performed no matter who has been throwing the ball.

Denarius Moore, a 6-foot, 195-pounder out of Tennessee, was the talk of training camp - stacking day upon day of highlight-reel catches. Still, he is listed as a third-stringer behind starters Darrius Heyward-Bey and Jacoby Ford and backups Louis Murphy and Chaz Schilens on the Raiders' unofficial depth chart.
The most experienced receiver among the group is Derek Hagan, who has played for Miami and the New York Giants in five NFL seasons. His 12 catches and 224 yards in exhibition games both ranked second in the league, but he admits confusion about his role since he isn't even listed on the depth chart.
"I pretty much think that no one knows," Hagan said. "Once we get things going, we'll figure out what we're going to do."
Ford and Hagan were working with the first team offense this week.
Ford looks like the only solid start this week and even he's not for the faint of heart. With the way that Hue Jackson has been gushing about him, we believe he'll be heavily involved in the Raiders' game plan, but this is a team that is pretty hard to pin down outside of RB Darren McFadden.

Signed a day apart in late November, Michael Clayton and Devin Thomas have been with the Giants for five games, and if you told either of them heading into the regular-season finale they wouldn't have a single reception, they would have been, well, more than surprised.
"I'm definitely hungry, waiting for my first one, we'll see what happens on Sunday," Clayton said.
It's been a long wait for both receivers, but at least one of them figures to be needed against the Redskins. Hakeem Nicks (broken toe) joins Steve Smith (knee) and can't play this weekend, leaving Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan as the fill-in starters. If the Giants need a third receiver, Clayton or Thomas gets the call.
ALERT: Giants Steve Smith lost for season
Thursday, December 16, 2010, 12:11am
The New York Giants' lineup has suffered yet another massive blow with wide receiver Steve Smith having to undergo season-ending knee surgery.
Smith underwent an MRI to his left knee on Tuesday. The Giants announced that he suffered an articular cartilage injury, the result of him being awkwardly tackled from behind in Monday's victory over the Vikings.
Smith's surgery has not been scheduled yet. He had just returned from a four-game layoff due to a partially torn pectoral muscle.
"Steve will not be able to play anymore," coach Tom Coughlin said. "I feel bad for Steve. He fights his way back and then [suffers] this injury. Our entire thoughts for the team are with Steve. First news was it may have been a hamstring or that type of injury."
Smith had 48 receptions for 529 yards and three touchdowns after making the Pro Bowl the previous season.
Mario Manningham is a bit banged up but should be able to play this weekend against the Eagles. Derek Hagan will become the third option with Hakeem Nicks the WR1.

As for the other injured receiver, Mario Manningham, his hip flexor situation will likely be an issue this week but there sounds like a chance he could play on Sunday against the Eagles.
That would be huge because it would give the Giants two starting receivers of Manningham and Hakeem Nicks, allow them to use Derek Hagan as a third receiver, and not force them to rely on Michael Clayton or Devin Thomas as a regular receiving option in the most important game of the season.
