Frank Gore Fantasy News

WR Randy Moss, 35, ran smooth patterns with ease and snatched passes out of the air, as the 49ers ran plays uncovered. During this phase of the NFL offseason program, teams are prohibited from practicing offense vs. defense. Moss reported to the 49ers' offseason program on April 30.
Safety Donte Whitner said he has been working out in the mornings with Moss, Frank Gore and Michael Crabtree. Whitner said he believes Moss has not lost any speed.
"A lot of times we're running with chains on our backs, we're running 60-yard sprints," Whitner said. "So you can see that he can really run. A lot of times he's leading in the sprints. So if I had to say anything, I don't think he lost a step at all."
Moss is one of the most talented WRs in the history of the NFL, but let's not forget that he had a dreadful 2010 season (two years ago) where he caught just 28 passes for 393 yards as he bounced from the Patriots to the Vikings to the Titans. He joins a 49ers offense that doesn't throw the ball much and already has two established receivers in Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis. There's simply not a lot of upside here.

49ers RB Frank Gore last season rushed for 1,211 yards -- the second-highest output of his career.
There's the perception that the 49ers did not use him as much in the second half of the season, which really wasn't the case. Gore carried more than 20 times in five games last season. Three of those games came within the final seven weeks of the season. Only once in those seven games, however, did he average more than 3.7 yards an attempt.
Yet, in the playoffs, Gore rushed for 163 yards on 29 attempts for a 5.6-yard average.
As Gore begins his eighth NFL season and has 1,653 regular-season rush attempts, the 49ers finally have some quality depth behind him. It seems likely that Gore's play time will decrease this season with more players capable of filling in.
This speculation is reasonable considering the team added Brandon Jacobs in free agency and LaMichael James in the draft. Gore still figures to be the team's RB1, but a reduction in workload would make him a fantasy RB2.

On KNBR, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said wide receiver Randy Moss, placekicker David Akers, center Jonathan Goodwin, running back Frank Gore and safety Dashon Goldson are not among the more than 60 players participating in the team's voluntary offseason workout program. Goldson has not signed his franchise tag. The others, Harbaugh said, live out of the area and had family commitments.
49ers sign Brandon Jacobs
Wednesday, March 28, 2012, 4:26pm
The San Francisco 49ers agreed to a one-year contract with former New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, a league source said Wednesday.
Jacobs will pair with starting running back Frank Gore. He rushed for 571 yards (3.8 YPC) and scored seven TDs in 2011.
Jacobs will impact Gore's workload, especially around the goal line, where he has a reputation for being a good short-yardage back. This is definitely bad news for Gore. However, barring a RB addition, Ahmad Bradshaw is looking much stronger as the feature back for the Giants.

49ers RB Frank Gore did not suffer a serious injury like he did in 2010 when he broke his hip. But his heavy workload at the beginning of the season left him with an array of nagging, smaller injuries by midseason that, according to a source with knowledge of Gore's condition, kept him from shouldering the same load he did at the beginning of the season.
Gore will be 29 years old heading into next season with youngsters Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon nipping at his heels for playing time.

49ers RB Frank Gore appeared to re-injure his right leg on the 49ers' final drive, but Gore said Monday: "I feel good. I'll do whatever it takes to get to the Super Bowl."
Harbaugh: Gore not 100-percent healthy
Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 3:17pm
There were a lot of questions for coach Jim Harbaugh on Monday, the day after the 49ers' 21-19 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Harbaugh was short on answers, but he disclosed running back Frank Gore is banged-up.
Gore's health was the reason he carried just 10 times for 72 yards on Sunday. Gore has not missed a game, but he has played through two ankle sprains this season. Gore has been the workhorse for the team with 234 rushing attempts this season for 1,054 yards. He also has 16 receptions.
"He's got some things," Harbaugh said. "He's not 100 percent. And we have other backs who got carries in the second half."

Frank Gore may be limited

The 49ers proved they could win without running back Frank Gore in their 27-20 win over the Giants, but it doesn't appear they'll have to make the point again when they host the Cardinals on Sunday.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said he expects Gore to be able to play this week after he didn't finish the win over New York because of a knee injury. Gore had six carries for zero yards and took part in just one play in the second half.
In Gore's absence, rookie Kendall Hunter (six carries, 40 yards) had a 17-yard touchdown run, and Anthony Dixon had 10 yards on two carries. Dixon had four carries for 10 yards in the season's first eight games.
"I would plan on (Gore) playing, but you just feel like right now that we've got a stable of backs," Harbaugh said. "We've got Frank Gore. We've got Kendall Hunter. We've got fresh legs in Anthony Dixon. This bodes really well for our football team."
