Vikings Beat: Expect to see 'plenty' of Kyle Rudolph

Saturday, November 15, 2014, 9:53am

ESPN - [Full Article]

Kyle Rudolph said this week it was important for him to make sure he could do everything he'd normally do when he did return.

He's typically on the field for about 90 percent of the Vikings' offensive snaps; between the time he's had off and how much the Vikings have used Chase Ford and Rhett Ellison in Rudolph's absence, not sure it's realistic to expect him to play that much in his first week back.

But given how much the Vikings use two-tight end sets -- and how successful tight ends have been against the Chicago Bears (their 668 receiving yards allowed to tight ends is the third-most in the league, per ESPN Stats & Information) -- expect to see plenty of Rudolph on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact:

Rudolph is apparently healthy for the first time in a while. If you've been struggling with guys like Jordan Reed, for example, and whoever is the Washington TE of the week, Rudolph may be able to give you some stability at the position. All through the offeseason we had news items saying Rudolph was going to be the centerpiece of the offense. While that may not happen this week, it sounds like he's at least going to get his snaps. The hope is by next week we'll have a much better read, but the potential is there if you need help.

Kyle Rudolph (sports hernia) to miss about six weeks

NFL.com - [Full Article]

NFL Media's Albert Breer reports, via a source apprised of the injury, that Kyle Rudolph will undergo sports hernia surgery and miss about six weeks.

Rudolph was listed on the Vikings' Week 3 injury report with a groin issue after appearing to lose a step or two in the Week 2 loss to the Patriots.

The coaching staff had reasonable expectations of a career year for Rudolph in Norv Turner's tight end-friendly offense.

Fantasy Impact:

Rudolph's absence is especially disconcerting with RB Adrian Peterson and QB Matt Cassel out indefinitely. Rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater could have used Rudolph as another target, which will now make defenses jobs easier when facing the Vikes. Rhett Ellison and MarQueis Gray are next up on the depth chart.

Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph was placed on injured reserve, HC Leslie Frazer announced. He suffered a broken foot on Nov. 3 against the Cowboys and was expected to return in 4-6 weeks. The team hoped Rudolph would practice this week, but he wasn’t ready to make that step.

Fantasy Impact:

John Carlson suffered a concussion in Week 14 so his status is in doubt for Week 15 vs. the Eagles. Rhett Ellison is next up on the depth chart.
