Victor Cruz Fantasy News

Giants HC Tom Coughlin was reluctant to answer a question about which players impressed on the first day, but he did mention one by name: WR Rueben Randle.
“I was very impressed by Randle out on the field this morning,” the Giants coach said.
“What you see on film, it looks like we have a receiver that is capable of making some deep catches, running by some people,” OC Kevin Gilbride said. “As you guys have seen us unfold with those other two guys (Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz), they’re intermediate (threats) and certainly Hakeem can go deep.
“But you need that third component so that when people start skewing over and clamping down on Cruz and Nicks, you’ve got a guy who, if he gets 1-on-1, has the ability to get over the top and hurt people like Mario Manningham did.”
It appears that Randle is on track to become the team's WR3 behind Nicks and Cruz.

Mario Manningham expected to sign with the Buccaneers
Sunday, February 26, 2012, 4:02pm
While New York Giants' general manager Jerry Reese conceded that there's a "75 percent chance" Super Bowl hero and soon-to-be-free-agent Mario Manningham won't return to the Giants, sources at this weekend's NFL scouting combine said there is virtually no chance he is back with the club.
Instead, they said, Manningham is expected to follow former Giants' assistant Mike Sullivan to Tampa Bay. Sullivan, who was the Giants' quarterbacks coach, recently took a job as Tampa Bay's offensive coordinator.
Manningham was the Giants' third leading receiver last season with 39 catches, but he recently told The Vindicator of Youngstown, Ohio, that he "wants the ball more." With Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz each producing over 1,000 yards in receptions last season, that is unlikely to happen in New York.
But there are other reasons Manningham won't be back, sources said. First, they said, he would know Sullivan's offense, so there is no learning curve. Second, people close to Manningham indicate that he wants to go to a warm-weather club, and last time I checked Tampa Bay qualified on that score. Third, sources said the Giants probably wouldn't make him a contract offer, not only because they believe his price may be too high but because they're more interested in a wide receiver who can line up at more than one or two spots at the position, which, they said, Manningham cannot.
Manningham's season may have turned out quite differently had he not concussed himself in Week 2. Had he caught Eli Manning's deep pass cleanly, he probably would have scored from 53 yards out. He did make the catch, but stumbled and hit the turf so hard that he left the game and missed the following game against the Eagles. Victor Cruz emerged in Weeks 3-5, catching 17 passes for 369 yards and three TDs, and never looked back.

Giants WR Victor Cruz appeared to suffer a knee injury in the second half but said he merely took a shot to the quad and would be fine.

The dream season is over for Giants WR Victor Cruz—at least if you believe Roddy White.
The Falcons receiver told reporters that the Paterson native is in for a "rude awakening" next season when teams begin game-planning to stop him after his breakout season.
But White added: "Any time you put up those kinds of numbers, he’s going to be in for a really good pay day. But he deserves it. Any guy that goes out there and puts up 1,500 yards, that’s remarkable."
We hear what White is saying, but it will be tough for defenses to pay too much attention to Cruz with Hakeem Nicks (and Mario Manningham) to deal with as well.

Darrelle Revis could see plenty of Hakeem Nicks, the Giants' best wide receiver, on Saturday. Nicks is coming off a game in which he dropped a sure-handed touchdown pass after he lost it in the sun early in the first quarter during the Giants' 23-10 loss to the Redskins last Sunday.
Nicks is looking to redeem himself, but he is not getting caught up in the hype of a potential one-on-one matchup with Revis.
Victor Cruz, though, is looking forward to seeing those two go at it.
"Not only is [Revis] good athletically, but he watched a lot of film," Cruz said. "He knows the routes that we like to do on certain downs and distances and he picks up on tendencies. We have to be disciplined. We can't show any of our stuff and make sure we get to the right depths and using the right technique against them."
"It is going to be a good one," Cruz said of Revis against Nicks. "I think it is going to be a lot of back and forth, both guys making plays, both guys are very talented. Whoever makes that last play to win the game will be the victor."
Here's how the last few true WR1s have fared against the Jets and Revis: Dwayne Bowe (6-69), Santana Moss (5-42), Steve Johnson (8-75-1, 3-84), Vincent Jackson (1-15) and Brandon Marshall (6-109).

With Mario Manningham out, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz become even better plays. This just goes to show not to trust a player's take on weather he will play or not. Manningham was adement throughout the week that he would be good to go come Monday night.
Mario Manningham misses Friday practice
Friday, November 25, 2011, 5:48pm
Garafalo on Twitter: "WR Mario Manningham (knee) is out again today."
The Giants play on Monday night, but it's still troubling that Manningham hasn't practiced all week. Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are looking like strong plays against the Saints. Fantasy owners with a reasonable Plan B may want to use it to avoid a possible goose egg on Monday night.
WR Mario Manningham expected to be game-time decision
Saturday, November 12, 2011, 4:40pm
New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham had some swelling in his knee this morning. Manningham and Hakeem Nicks likely will be game-time decisions.
If you have Manningham (or Nicks) and feel confident you can get good production out of someone in an earlier game (the Giants play in the late-afternoon doubleheader) don't hesitate to make a switch. If you'd rather wait, and can make late lineup changes, make sure you have alternatives ready to go. If they don't play, Jake Ballard and Victor Cruz will be Eli Manning's main targets.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw and WR Hakeem Nicks stay home
Saturday, November 5, 2011, 9:09pm
The New York Giants announced running back Ahmad Bradshaw and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks did not travel with the team and will not play Sunday against New England.
It was widely expected that the two wouldn't play. Brandon Jacobs will be the main man in the Giants backfield, and Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz will see extra targets with Nicks out. All are worthy of starts this weekend. Tight end Jake Ballard could also see more passes sent in his direction, and has the potential to be a solid lower-tier TE1.
Hakeem Nicks not expected to play in Week 9
Friday, November 4, 2011, 2:16pm
In the vernacular of NFL players, the word "smart" often means "sidelined." So when Hakeem Nicks said Thursday that his hamstring injury is "something you have to be smart about," it was basically code for declaring himself out against the Patriots on Sunday.
"We have a long season ahead of us," he said. "If I have to sit out one week and come back the next, I would rather do that than being out for a while . . . I don't think it's anything crazy like it will be two, three or four weeks. It's a matter of me not wanting it to be there, so I have to be cautious about it and take care of it."
Nicks didn't officially say he won't play, although he did not finish the game against the Dolphins last Sunday and hasn't practiced this week. "I'm hoping to wake up and the pain will be gone," he said. But it is becoming clear that the Giants likely will play the Patriots without either their top receiver or top running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who is dealing with a foot injury.
Nicks's absence creates opportunity for Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz, who are both strong starts against a Patriots secondary that has given up the most Adjusted FP to WRs this season.
