The Sporting News - [Full Article]

RB Steve Slaton returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since before preseason. He’s been out with a hamstring injury. Slaton, who rushed for almost 1,300 yards as a rookie in 2008, was going to be trade material if the first three backs stayed healthy.

Arian Foster is expected to play in the opener against Indianapolis. Derrick Ward and Ben Tate are competing for playing time behind Foster. Because Slaton hasn’t carried the ball, he’ll probably be waived Friday. After his impressive rookie season, Slaton underwent neck surgery, but the emergence of Foster and Ward last season kept him tied to the bench.

Fantasy Impact:

We're not so sure about Foster's availability given John Clayton's recent comments on Twitter (that Foster "has a tear" and could miss 3-4 weeks), so the Texans may retain Slaton as insurance.

ESPN - [Full Article]

The Oakland Raiders selected former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor with a third-round pick in Monday's supplemental draft, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Oakland picked Pryor with the 18th selection in the third round. By selecting Pryor, the Raiders now will not pick in the third round of the 2012 draft.

A Raiders source told ESPN.com's John Clayton that the team is looking at Pryor more as receiver than a quarterback at the NFL level.

John Clayton, ESPN - [Full Article]

John Clayton: WR Mark Clayton worked out for the Rams Wednesday, indicating he's ready to re-sign with the team. Clayton is expected back with the team.

Fantasy Impact:

Clayton joins an already crowded receiving corps but is unlikely to make much of an impact early in the season. Mike Sims-Walker and Danny Amendola seem to be the safest bets at this point.

Source: Ochocinco traded to Patriots
Thursday, July 28, 2011, 9:47pm

ESPN Boston - [Full Article]

The New England Patriots has acquired wide receiver Chad Ochocinco after he accepted a restructured three-year contract from the Patriots, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton.

Terms of the trade weren't known. Ochocinco was seen catching a plane to Boston Thursday. He was scheduled to make $6.35 million for the Bengals this year. The Patriots wanted him to restructure his contract to fit their cap.

Fantasy Impact:

This is obviously big news for Ochocinco, who was on the outs in Cincinnati. Deion Branch's stock takes a hit, while Wes Welker is likely unchanged. Ochocinco will have a chance to revitalize his career playing with arguably the best QB in the game. The 33-year-old's value should rise into the 6th or 7th round.

With the sides working at a frenzied pace, they reached a tentative agreement to make the 2011 salary cap $120 million, a source told ESPN.com NFL senior writer John Clayton.

Since February, the players have been willing to accept a $141 million player cost number -- which includes both salaries and benefits paid to players -- per team, multiple sources told Clayton. By agreeing to a $120 million cap, the players allow $21 million per team to be in benefits. Now that a cap number has been formed, teams need to determine the minimum cash payroll number, or what teams will be required to spend.
