The depth of the loss created when former New York Giants tight end Kevin Boss signed with Oakland shows itself every day, given no one has stepped up to seize the tight end position in his absence.

Undersized Travis Beckum was the favorite to do so, but has been hobbled by a hamstring issue. He also drew the ire of offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride recently in practice for not only being in a play he didn’t belong in, but then ran the wrong route.

The undersized Beckum (6-3, 234) also has struggled at times in blocking.

Fantasy Impact:

Don't bank on Beckum this year.

Newark Star-Ledger - [Full Article]

Travis Beckum will start at tight end for the Giants Monday night. Beckum weighs around 235 pounds, making him one of the NFL’s slighter at the position.

Monday’s game against the Bears will be an important audition for Beckum, who takes over as No. 1 on the depth chart after Kevin Boss signed with the Raiders.

The Giants are hoping they do not need to significantly alter their offense for Beckum, who missed last week with a hamstring injury and has 21 career catches in two seasons.

Fantasy Impact:

Beckum is said to have good pass-catching abilities, but right now he's not much of an option in standard leagues. He's on the rise on our charts, but still only ranks 24th, making him a TE3. Most leagues just don't go that deep with their tight ends.

The Giants will have to use a committee approach at tight end after losing Kevin Boss to the Raiders. They signed Ben Patrick from the Cardinals a few days ago, but he's not nearly as accomplished a receiver as Boss is. They also have Travis Beckum, a third-year vet who was a standout receiver in college, but his blocking abilities still aren't very good.

Fantasy Impact:

From a fantasy standpoint, it appears that Beckum has the best chance to make an impact, though the Giants underused Boss while he was in New York.
