The St. Louis Rams released wide receiver Austin Pettis on Monday, citing roster concerns elsewhere.

Pettis was inactive for Sunday's victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

FOX Sports 1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo reported that Pettis missed a meeting on Saturday. He caught 12 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown this season. He made 11 starts in four seasons with the Rams, who drafted him in the third round in 2011.

The Rams also released wide receiver Emory Blake from the practice squad.

Fisher: Kenny Britt is 'making a lot of plays for us'

Sam Bradford wasted no time getting started in team drills, completing touchdown passes to Brian Quick, Kenny Britt and Austin Pettis. Most notably, Britt hauled in a difficult ball with second-year defensive back Brandon McGee in his face.

“He loves playing the game,” Fisher said of Britt. “He feels good. He’s making a lot of plays for us.”

Fisher also credits Britt for bringing along Quick, a receiver of a similar ilk. “Kenny may make a mistake as far as an incorrect route here or there, but he does it going full speed,” Fisher stated. “Brian, early on in his career, if he wasn’t sure, he wasn’t quite full speed. I think Brian’s learning just to go. Good things happen when you’re running hard.”

Fantasy Impact:

Britt is apparently running with the first team alongside Quick, with Tavon Austin manning the slot. If this continues, he'll be a compelling late-round pick on draft day. He has talent, but hasn't shown it in recent years. Maybe a fresh start with his old coach (FIsher) will do the trick. There is certainly opportunity in the Rams' receiving corps.

While nothing is set in stone in terms of starters at receiver entering this training camp, Rams WR Chris Givens does seem to have the inside track on holding down a starting job, at least as camp opens. Tavon Austin also figures to have a large role. Givens will almost certainly have every opportunity to nail down the job, especially with Stedman Bailey set to miss the first four games because of a suspension. The Rams haven't had a 1,000-yard receiver since 2007 or even one to reach 700 yards since 2008. Givens doesn't have to reach the 1,000-yard mark for it to be considered a productive season but something close to 800 yards with six touchdowns would go a long way in ensuring his future as a starter.

Fantasy Impact:

The Rams receiving corps may be the most unsettled in the league. Austin figures to play starter's snaps in his second season, but Givens, Brian Quick, Bailey and Austin Pettis are all in the mix.

Why is Rams WR Tavon Austin's role seemingly shrinking? A personnel executive for another NFL team theorized: "Little receivers don't work with inaccurate quarterbacks."

Sam Bradford is a 58.4% career passer. He's been more efficient this season – 59.5% passing, 13 touchdowns, three interceptions, 90.7 rating – but never will be known for his accuracy.

Austin stands 5-foot-8 and 176 pounds. He leads the Rams with 24 catches but is averaging only 6.6 yards per reception, meaning he's mostly getting the ball near the line of scrimmage.

The bigger targets presented by Austin Pettis (6-3, 203), tight end Jared Cook (6-5, 254) and even Chris Givens (6-0, 203) are capable of creating more favorable matchups on the perimeter than Austin, who's best suited to the slot and is smallish even for that spot.

"You can get away with those guys if you have (Drew) Brees or (Tom) Brady," the executive said. "Of course, you can get away with a lot with those guys."

Fantasy Impact:

Austin is one of the disappointments in this year's fantasy world, mostly because he was pretty hyped up by the team in the offseason. Then the Rams said they were keeping him under wraps in preseason games, but he's obviously yet to be unwrapped this season. According to this story, he's just not a good match with Bradford. Not a good sign for the future either.

Rams WR Brian Quick has made strides but still has work to do.

There are certain routes he excels at, such as the fade pattern in the end zone. But he needs to display more consistency catching the ball and get better at using his size to grab contested or 50-50 balls.

Quick looks like the No. 4 but unlike last year in camp, he has gotten plenty of practice reps with the starting offense.

Fantasy Impact:

The Rams top-three WRs right now are Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Tavon Austin.

As the spring ended, Austin Pettis and Chris Givens were working as the starting outside wide receivers, with first-round draft pick Austin the starting slot receiver, and Brian Quick the No. 4. Not that Quick has had a disappointing spring; it’s just that Pettis has been that impressive.

“(Quick’s) doing a lot better,” Schottenheimer said. “He’s stepped up this year. He’s just much more comfortable.”

Fantasy Impact:

We'll see if Pettis is able to hold off the rawer yet more talented Quick when the pads go on in August.

Rams not close to re-signing Danny Amendola

STL Today - [Full Article]

The Rams and WR Danny Amendola are far apart in terms of what it will take to re-sign him. And re-signing Brandon Gibson doesn’t appear likely because the Rams need to use their limited salary cap resources on other players. If both Amendola and Gibson leave, the Rams will have only three wideouts under contract that played for them last season: Austin Pettis, Chris Givens and Brian Quick.

“Not a concern whatsoever,” HC Jeff Fisher said. “There’s options out there. The free-agent market, there’s options out there, and it’s a great draft for a receiver this year.”

When asked if the Rams wanted Amendola back, Fisher replied: “Oh yes, we’ve got a number of unrestricted free agents on our roster that we want back, and Danny would be one of them."
