Of all the bubble players on the Eagles’ 90-man roster, none may have boosted his chance of making the team more than WR Arrelious Benn.
With Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin sidelined Friday, Benn saw significant snaps and came up with two of the Eagles’ most dynamic plays against the Patriots in their 42-35 preseason loss at Gillette Stadium (see Instant Replay).
In the second quarter he blocked a punt that the Eagles' offense converted into its first touchdown. On the next drive, Benn caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Mark Sanchez that tied the game at 21-21.

On those rare dark days when he would drop his guard and the self-pity would come rushing at him, Arrelious Benn would ask, "Why me, God? Why me?"
Many athletes are fortunate enough to play their entire careers without a major injury. Benn isn't one of them.
There have been not one, but two, torn ACLs. To the same knee. There has been a torn medial collateral ligament. There have been neck and shoulder injuries. There has been a concussion.
In four NFL seasons, the 25-year-old Eagles wide receiver has missed 27 of 64 regular-season games due to injury. Sixteen of those 27 came last year.
Benn is a bit of a forgotten man, but he is just a strong camp away from perhaps making some kind of impact on a team with a lot of questions at WR.

With the loss of DeSean Jackson and Jason Avant, the Eagles appear to be thin at wide receiver heading into the 2014 season. Jeremy Maclin is back from a torn ACL to pair with Riley Cooper. Arrelious Benn is also competing against second-round pick Jordan Matthews from Vanderbilt and third-round pick Josh Huff from Oregon.
Ifeanyi Momah is also in the mix with some others, including free agent Quron Pratt, who is wearing the No. 10 jersey formerly donned by Jackson.
"I'm doing everything now that I was doing before I got hurt," Maclin told the Press of Atlantic City. "I feel like I'm all the way back."
Cooper had 47 receptions for 835 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He improved steadily as the season continued but many feel the loss of Jackson will hurt Cooper's production. Matthews and Huff have impressed coach Chip Kelly through OTAs and they could definitely receive snaps early in the regular season, according to the story.

The Eagles on Monday re-signed the Arrelious Benn after cutting him on Friday. Guaranteed to be making less than the $1.1 million he was due under his former deal, the oft-injured Benn could be playing for the league minimum.
Benn did it during a special teams drill. He had a chance to compete for the W2 job, but this will end his season. He had just returned to practice.
With Jeremy Maclin out for the year, Riley Cooper off somewhere getting help and B.J. Cunningham released with an injury waiver, Russell Shepard has found himself working with the Eagles’ starting offense at wide receiver across from two-time Pro Bowl pick DeSean Jackson.
Running with the starters in August and starting in September are two different things, but Shepard has certainly opened up a lot of eyes going into the preseason opener Friday against the Patriots at the Linc.
Shepard is taking advantage of no Maclin or Cooper at camp right now. Arrelious Benn has just returned from injury, but at this point is way behind.

It's hard to find a player with as many variables as Benn, the talented 24-year-old wide receiver who was acquired by the Eagles in March. One of HC Chip Kelly's maxims is that "durability is the best ability," which would not seem to be a point to ponder for Benn.
Maclin was carted off the field Saturday about an hour into practice.
Maclin, a fourth-year wideout in the last year of his rookie deal, went down at the end of 7-on-7 drills.
Jason Avant will likely remain a slot receiver so expect names like Riley Cooper, Damaris Johnson, Arrelious Benn, B.J. Cunningham, Greg Salas along with rookies Ifeanyi Momah, Russell Shepard and Will Murphy to compete for the job. Benn and Cunningham were already out of practice after suffering minor injuries in Friday’s practice that rendered each one day to day. The Eagles could also use more multiple TE formations with Brent Celek, James Casey and rookie Zach Ertz.
