Skins WR Moss has surgery, expected out a month
Monday, October 24, 2011, 2:25pm

Washington Post - [Full Article]

Washington Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss tweeted that he is having surgery on his broken left hand this afternoon, a day after he injured it in the first half of Washington’s 33-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

It’s expected that Moss will miss at least a month of playing time.

Moss, who entered Sunday’s game leading all Redskins wide receivers with 22 catches for 284 yards and two touchdowns, suffered the injury while trying to break his fall on a play. He recorded two catches for 17 yards before he was injured.

Fantasy Impact:

Anthony Armstrong and Niles Paul should benefit and get more time at WR, however John Beck is far from a strong fantasy QB at this point so don't get too excited about these waiver guys. Jabar Gaffney looks to be Washington's WR1.

Washington Examiner - [Full Article]

Redskins running back Tim Hightower said he’s going to play Sunday despite an ailing left shoulder. He said the shoulder is “definitely better.” Coach Mike Shanahan said, “his shoulder is a little sore, but I don’t think it will keep him from going.”

Shanahan was not as sure about receiver Anthony Armstrong, who missed the past game and a half because of a hamstring injury. But, Shanahan said, “I feel like there’s a good chance” Armstrong will play vs. Philadelphia.

Fullback Darrel Young also practiced Monday and looked good according to Shanahan.

Rich Campbell, Washington Times - [Full Article]

The more I see of WR Leonard Hankerson, the more he looks like a true third-rounder. With each dropped pass—and there was another on Wednesday during team drills—it becomes more difficult to say the Redskins got a steal when they drafted Hankerson in the third round.

He has significant upside as a long strider who can stretch the field and use his quality size (6-foot-2) on shorter routes, but the frequency at which he drops passes is a bit stunning. Then again, drops are a major reason why he was available for the Redskins at No. 79.

Here’s offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan’s take on Hankerson after Wednesday’s practice: “He's shown his talent. He’s a very natural receiver and he's got a chance to be very good, but he's very inconsistent right now, like a lot of rookies are. He's been real up and down, and until he can get more consistency, he'll never get to that point.”

Fantasy Impact:

One threat to Anthony Armstrong seems to have faded, at least for now. Armstrong caught 19 passes for 326 yards and two TDs over the last five games and posted a gaudy 19.8 ypc on the season. He's a nice flier late in fantasy drafts, though it should be noted that Jabar Gaffney is still ahead of him on the depth chart.
