The San Diego Chargers have waived wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu.

A strained knee suffered Thursday is expected to keep Chargers WR Kelley Washington out six weeks and makes the battle for the finals wide receiver spots even more interesting.
Bryan Walters’ 103-yard kickoff return and two catches for 31 yards on Thursday put him on the radar. But veterans had already been talking about his final month on the practice squad and how he’s shown in practices.
With Seyi Ajirotutu making improvement in all facets and adding a special teams fervor, there will be an odd man out even in the likelihood the Chargers keep six receivers.
Antonio Gates & Malcom Floyd OUT for Chargers
Thursday, December 16, 2010, 6:36pm
Antonio Gates and Malcom Floyd are inactive for the Chargers tonight. Vincent Jackson becomes a borderline WR1 start with Legedu Naanee & Seyi Ajirotutu also in the mix. Randy McMichael is a TE2 option highly reliant on the TD.
Vincent Jackson expected out at least two weeks

According to an NFL source, Chargers WR Vincent Jackson injured his groin in practice at the end of last week possibly from overuse. The team never listed him on the injury report.
In pregame, he strained his right calf as a result of overcompensating for the groin injury. He thought he could play through it and started the game. But he quickly realized he couldn’t play with it and the Chargers sat him for the night. He underwent an MRI Monday morning and is expected to be out at least two weeks.
Legedu Naanee was the most productive Chargers receiver in a game the Chargers didn't need to pass. Naanee caught 3 passes on 5 targets for 38 yards. Malcom Floyd is still bothered by the hamstring and caught no balls. Seyi Ajirotutu filled in with 1 catch while Patrick Crayton is out indefinitely after undergoing wrist surgery.

Rookie wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu has earned a spot on the roster even after Vincent Jackson returns at the end of the month.
“He obviously will make tough catches, and he obviously can get deep,” Turner said. “He is an exciting player … I see him being with us for a long time.”
Ajirotutu scored his first two NFL touchdowns among his four receptions for 111 yards on Sunday. He has nine catches for 185 yards in his three games since being signed from the practice squad, including his scoring plays for 55 and 28 yards at Houston, a 25-yard reception against New England and 20-yarder in his debut against New England.
Charger WRs in doubt for week 9
Monday, November 1, 2010, 9:24pm
Seyi Ajirotutu and Gary Banks have a good chance to be a part of the offense -- perhaps even more so -- at Houston on Sunday.
“I’m not encouraged,” Norv Turner said Monday. “Malcom (Floyd) might have a chance, but I’m not (optimistic). Legedu (Naanee), I think, will have a tough time getting back. Buster (Davis), we’ll see on Wednesday.”
It would be the third straight game missed by Floyd and fourth for Naanee. Both have hamstring injuries. Davis has a groin injury in addition to a rib injury.
Said Turner: “I see us playing with the guys we played (against Houston), and they did good.”
