Who's Bengals' No. 2 RB?

Cincinnati Enquirer - [Full Article]

One Bengals position battle will be for the role of primary backup running back behind Cedric Benson.

When the team’s mandatory minicamp opened June 18, the Bengals had seven halfbacks on their roster: Benson, DeDe Dorsey, Bernard Scott, Marlon Lucky, Kenny Watson, James Johnson and Brian Leonard.

“It is a lot of guys and a lot of competition,” Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said between practices on the first day of minicamp. “It’s going to be exciting to see how it all shakes out.”

It is almost certain that Benson will be the Bengals’ starting running back heading into his first full season with the team. Last year, Benson joined the Bengals four weeks into the regular season and was named the starter over Chris Perry after Week 6.

Benson finished the season with 747 yards and two touchdowns on 214 carries. He averaged 3.5 yards per carry.

Bengals rookie RB Bernard Scott showing nice burst

Cincinnati Enquierer - [Full Article]

Bengals rookie RB Bernard Scott has reportedly shown "a nice burst of quickness" during voluntary workouts.
The same report says Cedric Benson also looks good, so take it with a grain of salt. Still, Scott could be a sleeper if he makes the team. Benson is totally unreliable and Kenny Watson and Brian Leonard won't be hard to beat out.

Rams trade RB Leonard to Bengals

St Louis Post-Dispatch - [Full Article]

RB Brian Leonard’s agent, Mike McCartney confirmed that the deal had been finalized. “This is a great trade for Brian,” McCartney said. “I give the Rams credit for putting him in a great situation, with a great QB in Carson Palmer, where he can be a RB. They’re going to put him in the nickel (package) right away.” Later in the afternoon, the Rams formally announced the trade. “This move allows us to add more depth to our defensive line rotation,” coach Steve Spagnuolo said in a statement. After releasing Chris Perry recently, the Bengals don’t have a clear No. 2 RB behind starter Cedric Benson. The Bengals’ offseason roster currently includes Lindenwood University product DeDe Dorsey, Kenny Watson and sixth-round draft pick Bernard Scott at RB.

Cincinnati Enquirer: The Bengals have changed the guard this
season at tailback. Chris Perry, their 1st-round pick in 2004,
took over as featured back from Rudi Johnson, who was cut at
preseason's end. DeDe Dorsey is out for the season with a
hamstring injury. The Bengals terminated the contract Saturday of
their leading rusher from 2007, Kenny Watson, though Watson is
expected to be re-signed soon. But the biggest move was the
addition Tuesday of the 2005 draft's #4 overall pick Cedric Benson, who had three star-crossed seasons in Chicago before being
cut loose in June. Benson made his Bengals debut Sunday at Dallas,
running 10 times for 30 yards, including an impressive streak of
six consecutive carries in the 2nd quarter for 25 yards. "I want
to get more in-depth in the playbook and play better and get a
bigger role," Benson said after the game. "I was pretty pumped up
after getting the first couple of touches." Lewis liked what he
saw. "Cedric did some good things running the football," Lewis
said.

(hamstring) closely this week. Jones, Lewis said, is doubtful.

Saturday, October 4, 2008, 12:00am

The Bengals added wide receiver Chris Henry to the active roster;
waived running back Kenny Watson.

Friday, December 12, 2008, 12:00am

4for4 reports: Bengals backup RB Chris Perry (groin) wasn't ruled
out today, but there is a very good chance he won't be active this
weekend. Ditto for Kenny Watson (hamstring). Look for Cedric Benson to carry the full load Sunday.

Friday, December 19, 2008, 12:00am

4for4 reports: As we told you earlier in the week, Bengals backup
RB Chris Perry (groin) appears ready to dress out this weekend.
