Josh McCown Fantasy News
Monday, December 26, 2011, 6:55pm
If Cutler or Forte are ready to go, "we won't tell them no," Lovie said. "If we had other things on the line, we would take same approach."
Hard to believe Cutler and Forte would come back in a meaningless week 17 game. In another post, we already saw Lovie Smith's comments that he was looking forward to Josh McCown starting.

While Lovie Smith didn't rule out Jay Cutler, he said he is looking forward to seeing Josh McCown on Sunday.
Josh McCown to start for Bears
Tuesday, December 20, 2011, 10:51pm
The Chicago Bears are giving recently acquired quarterback Josh McCown a chance to win the starting job against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
If McCown performs well enough during practice this week, he will get the start, according to the sources.
McCown, who was acquired on Nov. 23, replaced Hanie for the last two drives Sunday and completed just one pass and threw an interception. Since 2007, McCown has attempted just eight passes, completing two.
Bears to talk to QB Donovan McNabb
Monday, December 5, 2011, 1:29pm
The Bears did not make a play for veteran Donovan McNabb last week and did not discuss possibilities even after McNabb became an unrestricted free agent.
But with Caleb Hanie turning in his worst performance as a starter or backup, and Josh McCown not deemed ready enough after more than a week of orientation with the offense, sources told CSNChicago.com that the Bears will be in conversations Monday about bringing the longtime standout with Philadelphia in as Hanie’s backup.
Conversations do not equate to “negotiations” or serious talks, but McCown has not played his way past rookie Nathan Enderle after 10 days and has not established a comfort level with coaches, receivers or the system yet.
The match certainly makes sense as McNabb is a Chicago native. The Bears need at least some threat of a passing game, especially now with Matt Forte apparently sidelined for 2-4 weeks. From a fantasy perspective, McNabb isn't the same QB he was with the Eagles and has really diminished the last two years with Redskins and Vikings.

The Chicago Bears' search for a veteran quarterback to back up Caleb Hanie remains a fluid situation, but sources said Tuesday that former Arizona Cardinals third-round pick Josh McCown is a leading candidate.
An eight-year veteran, McCown is familiar with the system employed by offensive coordinator Mike Martz from playing for the coach in 2006 as a member of the Detroit Lions.

Receiver Michael Crabtree made his return to the 49ers' practice field Monday afternoon.
Crabtree, whom the 49ers have yet to remove from the physically-unable-to-perform list, caught more than 20 passes during warmups from quarterbacks Alex Smith, Colin Kaepernick, Josh McCown and McLeod Bethel-Thompson.
Crabtree even caught a pass from coach Jim Harbaugh before general manager Trent Baalke walked onto the practice field, apparently, to inform Harbaugh that Crabtree was not allowed to physically participate in any aspect of practice until he's removed from the PUP list.
Bears looking for verteran backup QB
Monday, May 24, 2010, 1:00pm
Mike Martz is implementing his system for the Chicago Bears, who are in win-or-else mode. He's trying to get QB Jay Cutler prepared and can't worry about developing young QBs. There aren't enough snaps to go around. Therefore, it would be nice to have someone in place who already knows the scheme.
The name making the rounds in some NFL circles is Trent Green, who last played with the Rams in 2008. He battled concussions during a 14-year NFL career, including two severe ones in a 13-month period. Green officially announced his retirement less than a year ago and has a promising career as a broadcaster. He signed last week to do the Kansas City Chiefs' preseason games and also works for Fox and NFL Network.
A source close to Green said Green talked with the Bears three or four weeks ago and decided to remain in retirement, but the situation might be fluid. Another former Martz protege, Josh McCown, also has been mentioned.
In Martz's system, Green may actually have some fantasy value should Cutler go down. While it doesn't seem like he's ready to come back, just having the talks means it's not necessarily out of the question.

In a clear sign the Carolina Panthers are in the market for a quarterback this off-season, the team reportedly had a formal sit down meeting with former University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The Panthers enter next season with Jake Delhomme and Hunter Cantwell under contract and Matt Moore likely to retun as a restricted free agent. Josh McCown and mid-season fill-in A.J. Feeley are both unrestricted free agents and probably won't be re-signed.
The Panthers don't have a first-round pick in this year's NFL draft, but Tebow isn't expected to go until the second or third round.
Panthers still mum on #2 QB
Thursday, September 17, 2009, 1:48pm
The newest Panthers quarterback is spending late nights trying to learn, while the other backups are pondering whether he's about to move up the depth chart.
The Panthers signed veteran A.J. Feeley on Tuesday to fill in for injured backup Josh McCown, but there exists the chance that third-year third-stringer Matt Moore could take a step up and be the backup this week.
Coach John Fox gave his typical “game-time decision” declaration Wednesday when asked which one would be second in line behind Jake Delhomme.
Panthers sign Feeley, place McCown on IR
Monday, September 14, 2009, 9:44pm
The Panthers have placed QB Josh McCown on season ending IR and signed free agent AJ Feeley. The Panthers could not wait around for Josh McCown's foot to heal, and wanted another quarterback option on the roster. Feeley could eventually threaten to take over Jake Delhomme's starting job, and his presence is a sign that the Panthers may not be that high on Matt Moore.

Carolina coach John Fox was asked after Sunday's 38-10 loss to Philadelphia who he's starting at quarterback is for next week's game at Atlanta. His options could be limited because backup Josh McCown suffered knee and foot injuries in limited action against the Eagles.
Here's the way Fox responded to the question:
"Obviously, I think we start back with Jake. I think we’ve got to go back and evaluate what happened to us. Personally, after not seeing the tape, I don’t think that’s all Jake’s fault."
Fox cited the Panthers' pass protection problems.
"I think it’s uncomfortable playing quarterack when you’re getting sacked, knocked around," said Fox.
Jake Delhomme, who had four interceptions and a fumble, was quick to say he played poorly, but made it clear he wants to remain the starter.

True to his word, Panthers quarterbacks coach Rip Scherer is giving Matt Moore a chance to win the No. 2 quarterback job.
Moore took over for Jake Delhomme in the second half and did a pretty decent job. He completed 4-of-9 passes for 41 yards and led a touchdown drive to put the Panthers up 14-10 at the half.
Josh McCown, the No. 2 quarterback in the first preseason game against the Giants, entered the game in the third quarter.
Sources: Panthers Interested in Adding Vick?
Wednesday, August 12, 2009, 5:04pm
Ex-con Michael Vick has heard plenty of NFL teams say publicly in the last week that they don't want anything to do with him and the bad public relations he would likely bring to any team.
But the Carolina Panthers aren't saying no: Head coach John Fox is saying that he likes the quarterbacks he has right now but he's always interested in upgrading any position. He sure seems to be saying Mike Vick would be an upgrade over Jake Delhomme(notes), Josh McCown(notes) and Matt Moore(notes).
Meanwhile, word on the street is that Vick's bankruptcy lawyers wanted $2.66 million to do the case but dropped the fee to $1.5 million, according to the Newport News Daily Press. No wonder the guy is bankrupt.
