Trent Richardson not expected to play
Friday, December 28, 2012, 10:59am
Browns beat writer Tony Grossi believes there is a "zero chance" that RB Trent Richardson plays this week.
Montario Hardesty and Chris Ogbonnaya (and perhaps Brandon Jackson) will split the RB workload with Richardson out.
Trent Richardson could be a "spot player" this week
Thursday, December 27, 2012, 4:15pm
Browns QBs Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy didn’t practice again today with shoulder sprains suffered Sunday in the loss to the Broncos. Running back Trent Richardson also remained sidelined with an ankle sprain. Coach Pat Shurmur didn’t rule them out for the finale Sunday in Pittsburgh, but said if he knows they can’t play he will make the announcement before gameday, likely Friday.
Offensive coordinator Brad Childress said Richardson could be a “spot player” this week behind Montario Hardesty if he’s cleared to play. Richardson, who broke Jim Brown’s team rookie rushing record last week, is 50 yards shy of the 1,000-yard milestone.
Trent Richardson in a walking boot
Monday, December 24, 2012, 10:08am
Browns RB Trent Richardson hobbled out with a walking boot on his left foot for the long trek to the team bus, where a bunch of dejected players and coaches sat waiting for him.
At this point, it looks like Richardson might sit out next week's finale in Pittsburgh.
He underwent X-rays, which were negative. Richardson tried to answer a few questions at his locker, but two members of the Browns public relations staff prevented him from talking. He managed to say the ankle wasn't broken. "I'll be alright," he said. "I'm fine." It would seem very unlikely Richardson plays next week. Montario Hardesty would get the start but it's a tough matchup against Pittsburgh.
Trent Richardson says injury 'bigger than what folks think'
Monday, October 22, 2012, 8:20am
Browns RB Trent Richardson attempted to fight through a rib cartilage injury he suffered last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, but coach Pat Shurmur benched him after he was stuffed for no gain on third-and-1 from the Colts’ 35-yard line with 4:17 left in the second quarter.
Richardson finished with eight carries for eight yards, and the Browns tallied only 55 yards on 17 carries (3.2 average) against the Colts, who allowed 252 rushing yards to the New York Jets last week.
“The injury I have is much bigger than what folks think it is, and I don’t want to do anything to hurt the team," Richardson said.
Shurmur said the injury isn't worse after playing in the game, but he thinks it contributed to Richardson's poor performance. There will be some question about Richardson's availability heading into Week 8, but the team said they are preparing him to play. Backup running back Montario Hardesty had seven carries for 28 yards and would be in store for more action if T-Rich can't go.
