Redskins sign receiver Hackett
Wednesday, August 5, 2009, 3:21pm
WR D.J. Hackett has signed with the Redskins, giving the team another option for the No. 5 receiver spot after an injury to Roydell Williams.
Hackett was at practice Wednesday. He had been looking for work since the Carolina Panthers released him in February.

The Kansas City Chiefs are leaning toward signing veteran receiver Amani Toomer, according to two NFL sources.
Toomer could be signed as soon as Tuesday if the Chiefs follow through their current thinking, the sources said. Toomer was one of three veteran receivers Kansas City worked out Monday as their early training-camp work showed the team they may need more help for new quarterback Matt Cassel.
Kansas City also looked at receivers D.J. Hackett and David Terrell. Toomer is the most accomplished of the three. Despite the fact that he will turn 35 next month, Toomer can still be productive. He had 48 catches for the Giants last season, which was his 13th with the club.

Is Joe Horn on Ravens radar?
Wednesday, July 22, 2009, 7:45pm
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome has spoken to the agent for wide receiver Joe Horn and told him that the team would contact him after Friday's tryouts.
Horn, 37, is a four-time Pro Bowl receiver who averaged 87.4 catches from 2000 to 2004. He made 27 receptions for 243 yards and one touchdown in 12 games in 2007 before sitting out 2008.
The Ravens have a connection with Horn. Quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson was the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator in 2007, when Horn was a receiver there.
"The Ravens are one of the teams that would definitely interest Joe," said Ralph Vitolo, Horn's agent.
The Ravens are conducting tryouts on Friday with four wide receivers, a group that includes Drew Bennett and D.J. Hackett.
Hackett, 3 other WRs to try out for Ravens
Monday, July 20, 2009, 9:16pm
The Ravens made their first move since Derrick Mason's retirement announcement, inviting four mid-level wide receivers for a tryout on Friday.
While all the names can't be confirmed, it is believed that D.J. Hackett will be the most recognizable receiver at the workout.
A Ravens official couldn't confirm any names or whether a workout had been scheduled.
The agents for receivers Amani Toomer and Justin McCareins said they wouldn't be at the workout. Other free-agent receivers available include: Drew Bennett, Darrell Jackson, Robert Ferguson, Koren Robinson and Ike Hilliard.
There has been speculation that Marvin Harrison, who is considered the top free-agent receiver left, might wait until the middle of training camp before making a decision.

Charlotte Observer: After three weeks of practicing with the scout
team and being deactivated for games, WR Dwayne Jarrett is about
to get another chance to make an impact with the a Panthers. He's
preparing to play in Sunday's game at Tampa Bay because D.J. Hackett is out for at least a week with a sprained knee.
"Sometimes you have to just be patient and when (an opportunity)
comes, grab it and go with it," Jarrett said Wednesday.
Friday, December 12, 2008, 12:00am
The Herald Online: Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett doesn't know if this
is his week or not. Like everyone else, he's just going to wait
until Sunday morning to find out. The 2nd-year WR said Thursday
he's not sure what to expect, though he's hoping to be able to
build on his small helpings of success. For the last 4 weeks, he
and D.J. Hackett have alternated being active as the 3rd WR. It's
an unusual spot for the still-promising 2007 2nd-round pick, but
he has learned to accept it. So he'll wait for the pregame meal
Sunday to find out whether he gets a chance to build on it. That's
when HC Fox will summon players individually to tell them whether
they'll play or not that day. "I just go out there, practice hard,
and at the end of the week coach will tell us who's up and who's
down," Jarrett said. Since the end of Steve Smith's 2-game
suspension, Jarrett and Hackett have combined for just 12 catches
for 138 yards and no TDs in the 11 games when one or the other is
active. Jarrett still flashes (and still has the confidence of
management) because of his size and ability. His lone grab last
week was a key 3rd-down conversion, and QB Jake Delhomme has shown
no hesitance to throw his way.

Heraldonline.com: Panthers wide receiver D.J. Hackett will miss
this week's game, and perhaps several more, after suffering a
sprained medial collateral ligament in last week's win over Kansas
City. The wide receiver was hurt on the game's opening kickoff
after he was pressed into special teams duties. His knee went out
on him, causing him to fall awkwardly into Chiefs safety DaJuan
Morgan, drawing a penalty for a low block in the process. His
agent, Kevin Robinson, said Tuesday that Hackett wasn't sure about
the length of his absence, but that this week was out. He'll
likely be replaced this week by Dwayne Jarrett, who's been
inactive since CAR WR S. Smith's return. The second-round pick caught
two passes for 36 yards during the first two games in which Smith
was suspended.
