Joe Flacco Fantasy News

Contract talks between the Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Joe Flacco have continued and have been amicable, but the sides are not close to a deal and it's unlikely they bridge the gap quickly.
Both sides very much want to work out a long-term deal, but the timing has to be right. Flacco is participating in offseason work and has no plans to hold out, sources said. So playing out his final season under contract is the mostly likely outcome for 2012.
Flacco stands to make $6.76 million next season in base salary along with a $2.1 million roster bonus.

Tyrod Taylor is Joe Flacco’s backup.
The signing of Curtis Painter hasn’t changed that.
“Tyrod is our No. 2 quarterback; I want to make that very clear,” Harbaugh told WBAL radio yesterday.
“Everybody competes for their job, there’s no doubt about it, we believe in that, we always will, but he’s our No. 2 quarterback. He’s entrenched as our No. 2 quarterback.”
Harbaugh said that Painter is currently the No. 3 quarterback, and that the team may opt to continue to have a third arm on the roster throughout the season, whether that position is given to Painter or someone else. The Ravens’ head coach is also leaving the door open to bringing in a fourth signal caller during training camp.

Ravens not close to a deal with either QB Joe Flacco or RB Ray Rice. Rice has no plans to report without a new deal. Nothing has changed.
While we fully expect the team to sign its QB and star RB, these are certainly situations worth monitoring.

At a time when the Ravens have signed cornerback Lardarius Webb to a long-term deal and, according to G.M. Ozzie Newsome, are possibly heading in that direction with running back Ray Rice, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that no progress is being made between the Ravens and quarterback Joe Flacco.
Earlier this week, G.M. Ozzie Newsome said that the team is making progress with Rice, whose rookie contract has expired and who has not signed the franchise tender. Newsome also said that talks are ongoing with Flacco, but we’re told those talks are going nowhere.
Flacco has one year left on his rookie deal. “[I]t either gets done or it doesn’t,” Flacco recently said. “And I’m not really too involved in the process besides letting him know how I feel and letting him take care of that and letting the Baltimore Ravens take care of their side. And that’s really my involvement. It’s not about the money, it’s about what you as a player feel that you deserve. And at the end of the day, they’ll take care of it and I’ll be waiting.”
Flacco's insistence that it's "not about the money" might be one of the least genuine things a free agent has said all offseason. The reason a deal isn't done is because the two sides can't agree on Flacco's value. Therefore, it is all about the money.

Ravens QB Joe Flacco isn't going to the Super Bowl, but the Ravens quarterback did enough to prove he can take a team there.
"Obviously, he played well enough to win this game. I think his best football is in front of him," Harbaugh said. "He's only getting better. He's our kind of guy. He's a tough guy, a competitive guy. He's a leader, and I just can't wait to see where this thing goes with him. The plays that he made down the stretch, I think it says a lot about him and his future."
Asked whether he would like an extension, Flacco told Baltimore reporters on Monday: "Definitely. We’ll see how it goes. If it goes, it goes. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Lee Evans is wearing a walking boot only as a precaution. The team expects him back on the field soon.
Evans and Joe Flacco were clicking Thursday night, and this is good news for a player who could rebound from a sub-par 2010 season. You could do worse for a draft day flyer at receiver.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Lee Evans isn't practicing today. His left foot is in a protective boot but Evans doesn't seem to be limping terribly.
Evans had a good rapport on Thursday night with Joe Flacco. Right now, it doesn't appear as though Evans should be downgraded on draft boards due to this, but it is something to monitor.

Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor directed two fourth-quarter touchdown drives for Baltimore, the first ending with Jalen Parmele’s go-ahead 10-yard touchdown run with 7:16 remaining as the Ravens defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-13.
Taylor later added a 5-yard TD run of his own, a dive to the right pylon that withstood a video review. He finished 5 for 11 for 88 yards.
Kansas City’s Tyler Palko completed eight of 13 passes for 95 yards, but produced 10 points in his three drive - a tying 4-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Copper late in the second quarter and a 12-play march culminating in a tiebreaking 30-yard field goal by Ryan Succop with 6:58 left in the third quarter.
The Ravens played Joe Flacco into the third quarter and he completed 12 of 24 passes for 124 yards, while Chiefs starting quarterback Matt Cassel was 6 for 14 for 73 yards.

With Ravens Anquan Boldin and Joe Flacco having a year together to build timing and rapport, their connection should be more potent this fall. Plus, Flacco traveled to Arizona to throw to Boldin during the NFL lockout.
"We definitely feel the chemistry getting better," Boldin said. "We're starting to see the same things. We're on the same page as far as this offense is concerned. I certainly see us having a better year together."
While the Ravens will utilize Evans as a deep threat and rookies Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss as complementary targets, it's Boldin who's being counted on the most.
Ravens trade for WR Lee Evans
Friday, August 12, 2011, 5:26pm
The Buffalo Bills have traded receiver Lee Evans to the Baltimore Ravens, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Friday.
The Bills will get a fourth-round pick in the 2012 draft from Baltimore.
Evans, considered a high-value vertical threat, had said this week that trade talks were just a part of the game.
This is a boost for both Lee Evans and Joe Flacco, who desperately needed another target in the passing game besides Anquan Boldin and the TE duo of Ed Dickson/Dennis Pitta. It's generally not a good thing for a WR to change teams, but Evans has only gained 1,190 total yards in the last two seasons, so a change of scenery (and Flacco's strong arm) might do him some good. He's worth a flier in the later rounds as Baltimore's likely WR2. Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss are obviously hurt by this move.
In Buffalo, this probably won't have much of an impact on Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bills don't have any big names to line up opposite breakout star Steve Johnson, but they have a lot of WRs on the roster, so someone will likely emerge. Roscoe Parrish is next on the depth chart.

The Ravens need to incorporate a lot of rollout and bootleg passing plays into their offense this season, because that appears to be quarterback Joe Flacco's best chance for survival.
It was the Ravens' first pregame of the season and you don't want to read too much into a glorified scrimmage, but their offensive line had problems against the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night.
Left tackle Michael Oher got beat several times in pass protection, and was called for an illegal formation once. Right tackle Oniel Cousins was beat several times on both the left and right sides, and was called for illegal procedure once.
But QB Joe Flacco actually moved well, and stepped up into the pocket several times, something he didn't do last season. To avoid pressure this season, the Ravens will have to move Flacco often in games. If they don't, they won't have much success and Flacco might get hurt.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco said he did let team officials that he wanted tight end Todd Heap to return.
“I tried to influence it a little bit,” Flacco said. “You have an opinion and that’s all you can do. I think they listened and they gave an effort. I’m happy for Todd. He’s back home and he’s in a good situation. I know Todd loves Baltimore and would have loved to finish his career here. Other than here, he’s in the best situation for himself.”
Flacco did point out that young tight ends Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta have stepped up in training camp.
“Those guys are going to be pretty good,” he said. “But whenever you lose Todd Heap, you’re definitely missing something.”
Malcom Floyd re-signs with the Chargers
Friday, August 5, 2011, 8:05pm
The Ravens, with a huge need for a big-play wide receiver to line up opposite Anquan Boldin, had an offer on the table for Malcom Floyd. On Friday, Floyd, who spent the previous seven seasons in San Diego mostly as a backup, re-signed with the Chargers.
This is bad news for Joe Flacco and the Ravens, who need a WR to replace Derrick Mason. Right now, it appears that they will be depending on rookie Torrey Smith. Philip Rivers gets a boost as he gets his trusted WR2 back, but he's the third receiving option in the offense after Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson. The signing obviously hurts the sleeper status of Vincent Brown.

Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said quarterback Joe Flacco has added 10 pounds this season and is at "the best starting point since he's been here."
Cameron was impressed that Flacco gained the extra weight -- "it was his choice" -- and strength.
"He's as sharp starting off as i've ever seen him," Cameron said.
We like Flacco as a value pick in the middle rounds, but with Todd Heap and Derrick Mason gone, the lack of experience in his receiving corps is worrisome. Anquan Boldin would be better served as a WR2, while Torrey Smith and Ed Dickson are unproven.
The Ravens have reportedly made an offer to free agent Malcom Floyd.

Ravens WR Derrick Mason looked really good in a recent workout at Towson, snatching the ball on strong passes from Joe Flacco and running crisp routes. He doesn't appear to have lost any quickness.
"I was a 4.4 [40-yard dash] guy coming out, but I was quick," he said. "As my speed diminished over the years, I worked on my quickness more in the offseason."
