Tennessee QB Jake Locker Looks Sharp
Sunday, August 14, 2011, 12:03pm

Associated Press - [Full Article]

Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Jake Locker threw a 45-yard touchdown pass in his NFL debut, and Tennessee beat Minnesota to make new coach Mike Munchak a winner in his preseason opener.

Matt Hasselbeck started for Tennessee, and the veteran signed to a three-year contract to mentor Locker and make the Titans competitive this season looked sharp in his lone series. He completed 5 of 6 passes for 55 yards in an opening drive marred by a botched handoff leading to a 30-yard loss.

Donovan McNabb made his first start for Minnesota, and completed four of his first five passes before having the sixth knocked down by rookie linebacker Akeem Ayers. McNabb came back for a second series before leaving the game 6 of 11 for 40 yards.

Locker, the eighth pick overall from Washington, had his moment, too. He dropped the ball off the snap before picking it up, rolling to his right and throwing a perfect pass to Yamon Figurs for a TD. Locker played one series into the third quarter, and he was 7 of 10 for 89 yards with a passer rating of 130.8.

Fantasy Impact:

Locker and Hasselbeck won't have much stand-alone value this season, but Locker is a good prospect in keeper leagues and solid quarterback play will help Chris Johnson (if he ever shows up) and Kenny Britt.

Lions sign WR Adam Jennings, release Figurs
Wednesday, September 30, 2009, 3:44pm

Mlive.com - [Full Article]

In an effort to improve their special teams -- in both coverage and returns -- the Detroit Lions have signed free agent receiver Adam Jennings and released Yamon Figurs. Jennings was with the Lions last year and throughtout training camp this season.

Jennings is a decent returner, but he's very good all-around special teams player and excellent on coverage. His role as a potential kick returner is yet to be known, but Lions head coach Jim Schwartz made it clear on Monday that they were only going to wait so long for rookie Aaron Brown to improve his performance.

Schwartz tight-lipped on Hanson
Friday, September 11, 2009, 3:28pm

Detroit Free Press - [Full Article]

Lions coach Jim Schwartz apparently is going to be very tight-lipped about injuries. He declined to discuss kicker Jason Hanson's progress from knee surgery or other injuries after practice Thursday.

"I'm not going to comment on injuries other than the injury report during the season," Schwartz said. "So after we work that way, after we get into the Wednesday of the game week, injuries will be reported on the sheet and that'll be about it."

Schwartz would not discuss why right guard Stephen Peterman missed practice and the revelation of an ankle injury appeared only after the daily injury report was released late in the afternoon. Schwartz prohibits players from talking about injuries.

Schwartz also would not talk about a finger injury that forced punt returner Yamon Figurs from practice.

On Wednesday, Schwartz said he was optimistic about Hanson at least kicking field goals in Sunday's opener. On Thursday, Schwartz was cryptic. "He looks fine," Schwartz said. "We'll know on Sunday whether he can go."

Ravens TE L.J. Smith (hamstring) and WR Yamon Figurs (foot) returned to practice.

Figurs, who underwent surgery on a broken right foot during the offseason, was activated from the physically-unable-to-perform list and took part in individual and passing drills.

"It feels pretty good," Figurs said. "They worked me a little bit today, and they're going to ease me on in there. ... I'm really playing catch-up right now. Got a new offense and everything, so I'm ready to go."

Like Figurs, Smith was held out of contact drills and limited to individual exercises. Still, it was a positive first step for Smith, who hadn't practiced since July 28.
