FA Tatum Bell would like to play in 2009. "I know I could come in there and compete for the starting job. If not, I know I could at least be a good backup," Bell said.

4for4 reports: Broncos backup RB P.J. Pope (ribs) took reps
Wednesday and Thursday. But he's
not a factor now with Peyton Hillis, Selvin Young and even Tatum Bell in the
mix.

4for4 reports: With Selvin Young doubtful, Torain and
Pittman on IR, fullback Peyton Hillis is on track to start
at RB this weekend for Denver. They could spell him
with Tatum Bell, PJ Pope and Alex Haynes. If that happens,
they might just stay with the hot hand. It's a risky call
here. If you have a favorable matchup and look to be the
favorite in a one-on-one matchup, it might be best to void
this situation.

FoxSports.com reports: Denver will start rookie FB Peyton Hillis
at tailback and he'll be replaced by recently re-signed Tatum Bell, who rushed for 1,025 yards two seasons ago for the Broncos.

4for4 reports: NOTE: Denver lists FB Peyton Hillis as the starting
tailback today but RB Tatum Bell could also be a factor coming off
the bench.

Denver Post: Broncos RB Peyton Hillis became the 14th RB, and arguably the
most unlikely, to have a 100-yard rushing game since HC Shanahan took
charge of the Broncos in 1995. Considered a fullback with the potential to
convert to an H-back/tight end role when he was drafted from Arkansas,
Hillis became the Broncos' TB by injury default. Michael Pittman, Andre Hall and Ryan Torain suffered season-ending injuries, and a 4th back,
season-opening starter Selvin Young, essentially has missed seven games
with a groin injury. At first, Hillis was considered a stopgap option, but
he has become so much more. "He hits it hard. He hits the holes. He breaks
a lot of tackles," Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler said. "It's going to be
interesting to see what happens, because I don't think he's going to give
that position up (easily)." Even with the team signing tailback Tatum Bell
and Young almost healthy enough to return, Hillis is expected to remain the
Broncos' primary TB. "There are a lot of great running backs behind me or
laid up a little bit, so it may turn out that I don't stay in this
position," Hillis said. "That's why it's so important that I step up and do
the job once I got the opportunity."

4for4 reports: Broncos RB Selvin Young (groin) took reps Wednesday
and Thursday. This
signals backup Tatum Bell's time could be cut even more. Young
could dress
this weekend.

Denver Post: The next running back the Broncos figure to introduce
Sunday at Carolina is Cory Boyd, who was promoted from the
practice squad this week after humbling the # 1 defense as a scout
teamer in previous weeks. "No disrespect for what those guys have
dealt with on injuries - we've had our share too and it's not easy
- but I've seen that Bronco offense over the years do it with all
kinds of backs," Fox said during a conference call Wednesday.
"I've seen them over the years plug guys in and do very, very
well. Again, I'm not trying to slight their injury situation.
That's never easy. But I think they do a fine job." Against the
Panthers and their dynamic TB duo of DeAngelo Williams and
Jonathan Stewart, the Broncos figure to counter with a combination
of Boyd, Tatum Bell and Selvin Young, who is expected back from
his groin injury. During the Broncos' off day Tuesday, Boyd was
called into coach Mike Shanahan's office. For support, Boyd
brought along his fiancee. "I think he got a good feel for me, a
good vibe for me," said Boyd, a taller back whose next NFL carry
will be his first. "He just gave me the opportunity and I'm
grateful for it."

4for4 reports: Broncos RB Selvin Young (groin) took reps Wednesday
and Thursday. He's expected to backup Tatum Bell against Carolina
this Sunday. Also, the next running back the Broncos figure to
introduce Sunday at Carolina is Cory Boyd, who was promoted from
the practice squad this week.

Denver Post: There are too many ailments, too many issues, too
many question marks. As we speak, Mike Shanahan hasn't named a
starter for Sunday's game at Carolina. For all we know, he won't
do it until an hour or two to game time. Such is life in the
Broncos' backfield these days. Here's what I can tell you: Tatum Bell is healthy, in shape and ready to go. But that doesn't mean
he'll start, much less tote the rock 20-25 times. He may start. In
fact, if I had a guess, I'd say he will. But again, there are no
guarantees, just question marks. Which brings us to Selvin Young,
who has missed the better part of two months with a strained
groin. Young "feels like he can go," said Broncos coach Mike
Shanahan. But then, we've heard that before, only to see Young's
name on the inactive list. Besides, said Shanahan, "Any time
you're out eight weeks, it's hard to tell what type of football
shape a guy is in." Given the wacky ways of the Broncos' season,
that probably means Young will suit up and run for 100 yards and
two touchdowns against the Panthers. I just wouldn't count on it.

Denver Post: The Broncos have a new tailback, and he's their old
tailback, Tatum Bell. Denver signed Bell today after he auditioned
for the team during a morning workout, according to an NFL source.
Bell is expected to dress for the Broncos' game Sunday at Atlanta.
