Perhaps the best way for Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera to rest players late in the season is for them to build a big lead early in games, as they did in Sunday’s 38-0 win over the Falcons.

The snap counts reveal that only three Carolina players were on the field for every down.

Quarterback Cam Newton sat out the entire fourth quarter and played only 48 of 65 offensive snaps after helping the Panthers to a 28-0 lead at halftime and a 38-0 lead through three quarters.

Running back Jonathan Stewart, who had gone eight consecutive games with 20-plus carries, was in for just 19 snaps.

Fantasy Impact:

The story went on to say there are no guarantees the Panthers (13-0) will build big leads in their final three games as they continue to pursue a perfect regular season record. But Sunday’s snap counts show that Rivera is taking advantage of opportunities when they arise.
