Mo Wilkerson's deal may lead to Jets re-signing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

‪NFL salary cap expert ‬Joel Corry suggests Mo Wilkerson’s 2016 cap relief deal could free up cap room for a one-year deal with Ryan Fitzpatrick because the Jets had $3.425 million of space before the deal.

Offer Fitzpatrick one year for $12 million and the opportunity to bet on himself.

That part of the Jets’ three-year, $24 million offer was always a no-brainer for Fitzpatrick to sign if only because he has no other suitors.

Fantasy Impact:

FitzMagic was the #11 fantasy quarterback last season. It was his first finish in the top 12, though he was the #13 QB in 2011, playing for then-HC (and current-OC) Chan Gailey in Buffalo. It’s clear that with these two, the sum of the parts is greater than the whole, and given the weapons would have at his disposal -- Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and now Matt Forte -- Fitzpatrick will once again be a threat to finish with QB1 numbers, assuming he re-signs.

Chargers to sign RB J.K. Dobbins on one-year deal

Former Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is planning to sign with the #Chargers on a one-year deal. Electric when healthy, Dobbins — who averages 5.8 yards per carry in his career — reunites with OC Greg Roman and can hit the market again in March.

Fantasy Impact:

Dobbins has had poor injury luck in his career, but has only managed 234 total rushes since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. This is a low-risk, high-reward move by the Chargers and might give them a runway to wait a little longer in the '24 Draft before they address the position.

Cowboys sign RB Royce Freeman

The Cowboys have signed running back Royce Freeman to a one-year deal. Freeman had 319 yards on 77 carries with 2 touchdowns last year for the Los Angeles Rams. He was 3rd round pick of Denver in '18.

Fantasy Impact:

Freeman hasn't rushed for 500 yards since 2018, his rookie season. This shouldn't have any impact on the team drafting at the position and/or bringing back Ezekiel Elliott.

The Eagles have paid another big-time, rising player. This time, WR DeVonta Smith gets a 3-year, $75M contract extension that includes $51M guaranteed.
