Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio left open the possibility that Kampman, the Jaguars' top pass rusher, would return to the lineup on Sunday against Cincinnati.
"I'm as hopeful as ever that it's soon," Kampman said. "I don't know, but I practiced last week a little bit, getting more involved in all those football activities on the field. We'll see how it goes."
Once it became clear Kampman would miss the beginning of the season, he didn't have a specific timeline on which to base his return. It became a week-to-week matter.
Kampman has missed the past 12 games, dating back to last season, when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a non-contact drill in practice.
He said his decision to return won't have anything to do with the Jaguars' record at that time.
"I will come back immediately as soon as I get the green light," Kampman said.
